Mears Group has been awarded a major new 10-year partnership with Birmingham City Council to deliver repairs, maintenance, and planned investment work across 11,500 homes in central and west Birmingham. This contract represents one of our most significant projects in the city and will create a wide range of opportunities across our operational teams.

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Operative (Disrepair) to join our team in Birmingham. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality repairs and remedial works within occupied social housing properties, helping to resolve disrepair issues and improve residents' homes.

Working across a range of trades, you will be responsible for carrying out repairs resulting from damp and mould, water ingress, structural defects, and general property disrepair. This role requires a strong customer focus, excellent workmanship, and the ability to complete repairs right first time while working respectfully within residents' homes.

Duties:

• •Carry out disrepair and remedial works within occupied social housing properties
• •Complete multi-trade repairs including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, painting and decorating
• •Undertake repairs associated with damp and mould treatment programmes
• •Repair and replace skirting boards, architraves, internal doors, door frames, locks and ironmongery
• •Carry out kitchen and bathroom repairs, including fitting units, worktops and sanitary ware
• •Diagnose and rectify minor plumbing issues including leaks, faulty pipework and damaged fittings
• •Complete patch plastering, rendering repairs and making good following remedial works
• •Carry out wall and floor tiling repairs, re-grouting and sealing
• •Complete decorating works to a professional finish following repairs
• •Identify additional defects and report any follow-on works required
• •Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with quality standards
• •Deliver excellent customer service whilst working in occupied homes
• •Accurately record repairs, materials used and completion notes using handheld devices
• •Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicle in good working order
• •Manage daily workload effectively to achieve service level agreements and performance targets
• •Participate in out-of-hours emergency repair rota where required

Role Criteria:

• •Proven experience in social housing repairs, maintenance or disrepair works
• •Strong multi-trade background including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and decorating
• •Experience working within occupied properties and delivering excellent customer service
• •Experience identifying and resolving disrepair issues, including damp and mould remediation
• •Ability to diagnose faults and determine appropriate repair solutions
• •Full UK driving licence
• •Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
• •Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
• •Good understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
• •Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record work
