Are you an experienced IT professional with a passion for cybersecurity and protecting critical systems? We are seeking a security-focused technology professional to help safeguard our organization’s systems, networks, and information assets. In this role, you will manage key security technologies, support secure remote access, research and recommend security solutions, and collaborate with IT teams to incorporate security best practices into daily operations. You will also contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives while serving as a knowledgeable resource and mentor to other team members.

(onsite role, must reside in Phoenix, AZ)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages workstation ant-virus software and servers.
  • Manages and actively administers spam filtering on the email firewall.
  • Manages and supports remote access for Cisco VPN issues.
  • Researches, designs and proposes security-focused solutions. Consult with other team members to ensure security awareness is considered in day to day operations.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a business continuity and disaster recovery plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of common types of attacks against systems and networks and common vulnerabilities; theoretical underpinnings of computer security and its forensics.
  • Highly analytical and an excellent problem solver with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously with competing demands in an effective and productive manner, with a systematic approach to identifying issues.
  • Methodical and accurate while delivering to deadlines.
  • Good performance turning and troubleshooting skills critical.
  • Self-motivated and self-sufficient with ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Good communications skills with a good command of the English language; ability to convey technical information to nontechnical audiences.
  • Good interpersonal and customer service attitude with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders; a good team player with the willingness to assist the team whenever necessary.
  • Maintain highest standards of ethics as relates to handling confidential and proprietary information.
  • Ability to cope with shifting priorities and handling high volume “crisis” situations calmly and effectively.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays as required to provide support and maintenance for systems, and to ensure 24/7 support and troubleshooting.
  • Must be willing to work “on call” as needed.
  • Must be able to pass background investigations.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related technical discipline acquired through a regionally accredited institution preferred.
  • 3 years’ experience as a system or network administrator.
  • Minimum of at least one year in network engineering role.
  • Experience with or substantial knowledge in most of the following areas:
  • System administration
  • Operational details of multiple operating systems
  • Core internet protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, HTTP)

  • Work is characterized as more than 50% sedentary at a desk.
  • Work and tasks constantly involve the use of a computer, monitor, keyboard and mouse or mouse pad and/or mobile device.Constantly uses hands, fingers, wrists, forearms, shoulders, neck while using a QWERTY keyboard, mouse or mouse pad or other pointing technology.
  • Constantly uses close-up vision to view, read, observe, review, compare, identify, interpret, research, report, sort, revise, analyze, select data and data elements on monitors and/or technical manuals or hard-copy.Work involves frequent communications to relay information, recommendations, suggestions, interpretations of data, and/or instructions to or with users, management, staff, team members using a variety of means such as telephone, one-on-one and group meetings, web conferencing, mobile device (texting/IMing) and other means as available with technology.
  • Work rarely involves the ability to move about the office or move about the campus or other GCU facilities.
  • Work rarely involves lifting, moving or carrying items heavier than 50 pounds, climbing, reaching, kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling.
  • Work constantly involves mental acuity requiring planning and organizational skills, spatial recognition and placement skills, decoding information, using critical thinking skills to determine logical sequences and paths for processes, language comprehension, and to formulate sound conclusions, and extended periods of concentration/focus on the task at hand;
  • Work constantly involves synthetic thinking for prioritizing and monitoring work, tasks and activities in a logical manner and meeting deadlines and project timelines; accuracy and thoroughness; solving complex issues and problems; using creativity for problem solving and formulating logical recommendations.
  • Work frequently involves the ability to translate and interpret complex technical information and restate it in simplified terms.
