Position Summary:

As part of a dynamic inter professional team, the person in this role is responsible for case management/prime therapy of up to 5 older adult clients with a primary mental health diagnosis, often with complex medical needs; for creating strong therapeutic relationships with clients in individual as well as group therapies; for facilitating family systems interviews; for performing ongoing mental health and risk assessments; for performing cognitive assessments for all clients on the unit as required, and collaborating with other members of the team. Responsible for other related duties as required.

Program Summary:

Geriatric Mental Health Program – a short-stay program for seniors who have primary psychiatric disorders who require assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to be able to return to the community. This is a voluntary program for those who are struggling with mental health conditions and who need more time for rehabilitation, improvement in their mental health and overall functioning.

Qualifications:

Graduation from a recognized Degree program in Occupational Therapy

Registration with AAROT

AADL authorizer is an asset

Eligible for membership in CAOT

Experience:

Strong oral and written communication required.

Previous mental health experience required

Previous experience in group facilitation an asset.

Previous experience in working with older adults an asset

Previous experience in facilitating family systems interviews an asset
