JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Penn State College of Medicine, Office of the Vice Dean for Research is seeking a part time Research Compliance Specialist to complete the following tasks:

• •Provide strategic advisory support to the current Biosafety Officer on upcoming regulatory updates (e.g., NIH, CDC, OSHA), offering consultative mentorship and continuity for institutional biosafety operations and harmonizing internal policies with other PSU campuses.
• •Assist with the routine management of the Biosafety Asset Management Program, including program billing, scheduling routine and emergency service for equipment, and reviewing vendor contracts.
• •Conduct focused biosafety walkthroughs for bio/animal-containment (BSL-2/BSL-2+ and aBSL2/aBSL2+) spaces or specialized research labs, evaluate adherence to institutional safety policies, and assist researchers in resolving open audit findings or biosafety discrepancies.
• •Expedite the pre-review of complex Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) protocols, de novo renewals, and amendments involving agents registered for use on campus, utilizing deep familiarity with the medical school's labs and research groups.

5-8hr/wk - Flexable/As-needed

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
