ChristianaCare is seeking compassionate, customer-focused individuals to join our team as Patient Transporters . In this role, you will safely transport patients throughout the hospital while providing exceptional service and support to patients, families, and clinical staff. You will play an important role in ensuring timely patient movement and maintaining the equipment needed to support quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• •Transport patients safely to and from patient care areas, diagnostic departments, and clinical service locations using wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and specialized transport equipment.
• •Assist clinical personnel with transferring patients to and from transport vehicles and equipment.
• •Provide respectful, courteous, and compassionate service to patients and their families throughout the transport process.
• •Assist with the care, cleaning, and maintenance of departmental transport equipment.
• •Utilize smartphones and other technology to receive and manage transport assignments.
• •Attend required educational programs, in-service training sessions, and departmental meetings.
• •Follow all departmental and hospital safety policies and procedures.
• •Promptly report unsafe conditions, hazards, accidents, or safety concerns to leadership.
• •Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional standards at all times.
• •Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

• •Two years of customer service experience preferred.
• •Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• •Knowledge of hospital departments and locations or the ability to learn quickly.
• •Understanding of basic body mechanics and safe patient handling techniques.
• •Basic computer skills, including email, online education platforms, and timekeeping applications.
• •Ability to learn departmental policies and procedures.
• •Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively at a high school level.
• •Ability to use smartphones and mobile devices for job assignments.
• •Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• •Ability to maintain a professional appearance and high standards of personal hygiene.
• •Ability to demonstrate empathy and sensitivity to the needs of patients and families.
• •Ability to safely transport patients and associated medical equipment.
• •Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• •Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
• •Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

Physical Requirements

• •Continuous standing and walking throughout the shift.
• •Frequent pushing and pulling of patient transport equipment, often involving considerable weight.
• •Repetitive use of hands, wrists, fingers, and arms.
• •Occasional bending, crouching, lifting, and lowering of patients and equipment.
• •Must successfully pass a back evaluation examination.

Working Conditions

• •Frequent handwashing and adherence to infection prevention practices.
• •Intermittent exposure to diluted cleaning agents.
• •Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseases while following established safety protocols.

This position has a starting rate of $17.80 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.90 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.93 per hour.

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
