Payroll Specialist

Summary:

MediaNews Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in executing payroll processes using Workday and ADP. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the processing and reconciliation of multi-state bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls in accordance with department parameters, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements.

Although this is a remote position, candidates must reside in CO, FL, IL, MA, MN, OH, OK, PA, or TX.

What you will do:

• •Complete processing of multi-state bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls for both hourly and salaried employees by the established deadlines
• •Ensure accurate calculation of wages, tax withholding, and deductions, including validating submitted changes (e.g., tax, direct deposit, etc.)
• •Assist with the balancing of bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll accounts
• •Generate and distribute various payroll reports to regional Finance leads
• •Process monthly bonus and commission payments
• •Audit employee time and labor data submitted and interact with management as required to verify data and resolve discrepancies
• •Balance and process garnishments in accordance with various regulatory requirements
• •Process stop-payment requests or pay cards
• •Analyze and respond to inquiries from employees regarding paycheck amounts, tax withholdings, deductions, leave accruals, direct deposit, and other concerns
• •Make sure all payroll tickets are responded to on a daily basis, including populating required ticket attributes
• •Provide wage information for unemployment claims and other government-mandated surveys
• •Upload severance documents to employee records and ensure timely processing of payments
• •Help with compiling and processing monthly payments for union dues and union pension plans
• •Maintain confidentiality

What you will bring:

• •Comprehensive understanding of tax laws and wage policies, including federal and state tax laws as well as wage and hour laws
• •Data-driven and scientific-minded with strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy
• •Proficient in Excel and other Microsoft products
• •Strong and proven customer service skills with clear communication, both written and spoken
• •Ability to manage and prioritize responsibilities; must be a team player and able to work under pressure to meet departmental and regulatory deadlines
• •Self-motivated and comfortable working in both collaborative and autonomous environments
• •Experience multitasking in a deadline-driven environment
• •Adept with technology, including using the full Google Suite
• •Bachelor's Degree in business related field or combined education and payroll equivalent experience
• •Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
• •A minimum of two years processing multi-state payrolls
• •Direct experience with Workday and ADP preferred

Benefits and Compensation:

The hourly range is $26.00 - $28.75.
