Job Summary:

Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton is seeking a Newborn Physician (Pediatric Hospitalist) to join our team.

The Pediatric Hospitalist provides comprehensive inpatient care to newborn infants in the Newborn Nursery and Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (7 beds) and serves as a key member of the perinatal care team. The physician attends high-risk deliveries and newborn resuscitations, manages neonatal patients requiring intermediate-level care, collaborates with obstetric and pediatric providers, and ensures the delivery of safe, evidence-based neonatal care. The Pediatric Hospitalist works closely with attending neonatologists, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, nutritionists, lactation specialists, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality care for newborn infants from birth through hospital discharge.

Job Duties:

Practice Highlights

Delivery Room (Neonatal Delivery Team):

Attend maternofetal high-risk deliveries requiring pediatric presence at birth.

Perform neonatal stabilization and resuscitation according to Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) guidelines.

Communicate effectively with parents regarding newborn condition and treatment plans.

Newborn Nursery (Stable Newborns):

Perform initial newborn assessments and admission examinations.

Manage routine newborn care and monitoring.

Coordinate newborn discharge planning.

Perform newborn circumcisions.

Level II NICU (lower limit of 32 weeks gestation):

Admit and manage infants requiring intermediate neonatal care under the supervision of a neonatology attending.

Scope of service includes noninvasive respiratory support, sepsis evaluations and antibiotic therapy, feeding and growth management, jaundice requiring intensive phototherapy, and intravenous fluid and medication management.

Stabilize newborns requiring transfer to a higher level of care.

Qualifications/Job Expectations:

Board Certified/Eligible in Pediatrics, post-completion of an accredited Pediatric Residency Program and MD or DO certification.

Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and STABLE certifications.

Commitment to academic quality-focused practice and community/family centered care.

Inhouse duty, on average per month: fifteen 12h shifts, provided in a combination of 12h and/or 24h shifts.

Faculty appointment at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine encouraged

Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine- (Required)
