Pediatric Nurse Extern - Inpatient Rehab

• About Us:
• The Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation unit specializes in long-term rehabilitation care and is one of only two California pediatric CARF-accredited facilities. We cater to a wide range of conditions, including traumatic brain injuries, multiple traumas, trach/vent patients, spinal cord injuries, stroke, orthopedic conditions, Guillan-Barre, and other neurologic disorders. Additionally, we offer specialized care for medical patients admitted to the hospital, leveraging our team’s exceptional expertise in an interdisciplinary setting.

Our large playroom features two TVs for family entertainment and wall of cabinets filled with toys for patients. We also have a spacious kitchen area equipped with 2 ovens and an industrial-sized fridge and freezer for families to use during their extended stay, ensuring their child is fully prepared for a smooth transition back home.

Our commitment to patient success is evident in our focus on providing specialized education to empower patients to care for themselves before they return home. To ensure we maintain high standards, we utilize a national database to track patient outcomes, with Valley Children’s Rehab patients showing some of the best results in the country, particularly in achieving greater independence after our care.

Job Summary:

Performs nursing activities that have been documented as learned in the nursing program; may assist with medication administration upon completion of the pediatric theory and clinical course work, and successful completion of the Valley Children's medication examination. Qualifications:

The pay rate for PNE I is set at $23.00 and the pay rate for PNE II is set at $23.43.

Education

High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required)

Current enrollment with completion of at least two semesters/or equivalent in an accredited RN Program. (required)

Must submit transcripts showing proof of second semester completion

Must be continuously enrolled, throughout the duration of employment, in an approved Work Study course at an affiliated institution (Fresno City College, CSU Fresno, Lemoore College, College of the Sequoias, SJVC, Merced College, or CSU Stanislaus).

Licenses and Certifications

BLS - Basic Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association within 30 days of hire or transfer into position (required)

Skills and Abilities

Advancement to PNE II is based on completion of the pediatric theory and clinical course work and successful completion of the Valley Children's Hospital medication examination.

Additional Position Details

Must be able to complete the full, weeklong new hire/clinical orientation. Orientations are typically offered for Pediatric Nurse Externs during school breaks in December or January
