Baystate Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Chestnut Operating Room team at Chestnut Outpatient Surgical Services, Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts . Our Chestnut Operating Room provides specialized perioperative care for adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatient surgical patients across a wide range of surgical specialties, working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, residents, surgical technologists, anesthesia technicians, and operating room support staff to deliver exceptional surgical care and outstanding patient outcomes.
The Registered Nurse (RN) role offers the opportunity to work within a nationally recognized surgical program known for innovation, advanced technology, and patient-centered care while collaborating with a highly experienced interdisciplinary surgical team. Chestnut Outpatient Surgical Services supports 12 inpatient and outpatient operating rooms performing procedures across multiple specialties including Neurosurgical and Spine, General/GYN/Colorectal, Pain/Podiatry, CMF/Plastics, Urology, ENT/Dental, Orthopedics, Ophthalmic, and IVF services. Baystate Medical Center is recognized for surgical innovation, minimally invasive procedures, and robot-assisted surgical techniques. Nurses are supported through continuing education opportunities, simulation training, certification reimbursement, and a strong culture of teamwork and patient-centered excellence.
The Registered Nurse (RN) Will:
- Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care to adult and pediatric surgical patients.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care throughout the surgical experience.
- Serve as a patient advocate while promoting a culture of safety and quality.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Monitor patient status and respond appropriately to changes in condition throughout the perioperative process.
- Support a variety of surgical specialties within a fast-paced operating room environment.
- Adhere to evidence-based practice, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and outstanding patient experiences.
Schedule Details
- Job Type: Per Diem
- Shift: Days
- Hours: Per Diem
- Schedule: 10-hour day shifts
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekend shifts per 6-week period (or shifts equivalent to 24 hours)
- On-Call Requirement: No on-call requirement
- Other Scheduling Requirements: 4 shifts per 6-week period (or shifts equivalent to 48 hours); 1 major holiday and 1 minor holiday required. Shifts are defined and posted by the unit. Scheduling is managed by the Unit Manager. Unit-Based PRN staff follow the facility’s low-census cancellation order and may float according to the facility float grid.

Required Skills
- Licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.
- Minimum one (1) year of Registered Nurse experience in surgical services is strongly preferred.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required., BSN preferred.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous Operating Room nursing experience.
- AORN certification or interest in obtaining certification.

Compensation
Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

$41.82 - $54.06 - $66.30
