- Schedule: 8-hour shifts, 10:00a - 6:30p, 7:00a - 3:30p, or 6:00a - 2:30p, every other weekend rotation
SUMMARY
Within the defined scope of practice and in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations and accreditation requirements, the Phlebotomist performs blood collection procedures by venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques, following professional guidelines and standards and taking into consideration the condition of the patient, site, age group, and the type of test requested by the health care provider; insures all required information and documentation are accurately, timely and correctly submitted, and adheres to the professional standards of the American Society of Clinical Pathology. Phlebotomist staff will be required to perform home draws as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Applying knowledge of human anatomy, aseptic and sterile techniques and phlebotomy equipment, performs blood collection procedures by venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques, selecting the phlebotomy site taking into consideration the condition of the patient and site, age group and the type of test requested by the health care provider. Perform finger or heel sticks for micro-samples of capillary blood on neonates to adults as required.
Selects proper vacutainer tubes for testing using various sized needles, syringes, and or butterfly collection devices in order to collect appropriate specimens for testing.
Ensures that all specimens are properly, accurately and completely labeled, and that the proper documentation initiating testing is submitted with all required documentation. Contacts the appropriate patient care unit, physician office or outpatient clinic when specimens are incorrectly identified or submitted, obtaining additional needed information and/or patient information in order to ensure proper testing and interpretive data is received.
Performs duties and responsibilities related to the handling and transport of laboratory specimens, including receiving and accessioning specimens from inpatient and outpatient locations, conducting order entry in the lab information system, accessioning specimens, transporting specimens from the point of collection to the lab for processing.
At all times, provides service excellence and service recovery in the delivery of services to patients and in interaction with internal and external partners.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- National Accredited Certification in Phlebotomy

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.

PAY RANGE:
$18.82 - $28.40
The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
