POSITION SUMMARY: The Phone Receptionist in the Medical Billing Department is responsible for answering incoming calls from patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers regarding billing questions, payment inquiries, insurance claims, and account information. This position requires excellent customer service skills, professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain patient confidentiality while providing accurate billing support.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Answer and direct incoming billing-related phone calls in a professional and courteous manner
· Assist patients with questions regarding balances, insurance claims, payments, statements, and payment plans
· Review patient accounts and provide accurate billing information
· Verify insurance and demographic information as needed
· Document all patient communications and account activity in the billing system
· Route complex billing issues to appropriate billing specialists or supervisors
· Process payments received over the phone according to office procedures
· Respond to voicemail messages and return calls promptly
· Maintain confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
· Communicate effectively with physicians’ offices, insurance companies, and patients
· Assist with administrative tasks including filing, scanning, and updating patient records
· Support the billing department with additional duties as assigned
· Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION
· High school diploma or equivalent required
EXPERIENCE
· Previous experience in a medical office, billing office or customer service is preferred
· Knowledge of medical terminology, insurances processes and billing procedures is helpful
