Process Engineer

Description

Freeman Boatworks is seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to help improve manufacturing processes, production efficiency, quality, consistency, and production readiness across our boat-building operations.

This role works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Inventory, and other teams to identify opportunities for improvement, solve manufacturing challenges, and implement practical solutions on the production floor.

We are looking for someone who enjoys being hands-on in a manufacturing environment, can analyze how work is currently being performed, and can turn observations and data into improvements that make our processes safer, more efficient, consistent, and repeatable.

What You’ll Do

• •Work directly with production teams to understand manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, consistency, and manufacturability
• •Analyze existing processes and implement improvements using lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles
• •Collect and analyze production data, cycle times, labor requirements, quality issues, and other manufacturing metrics
• •Lead or support root cause analysis and develop sustainable corrective actions for manufacturing and quality issues
• •Identify opportunities to improve workflow, reduce waste, move work off-line, and improve production flow
• •Evaluate work methods, equipment, tooling, materials, layouts, and processes and recommend practical improvements
• •Partner with Engineering and Production to introduce new products, designs, engineering changes, and manufacturing processes
• •Develop and maintain work instructions, Build Books, photographs, diagrams, and other manufacturing documentation
• •Evaluate materials, components, equipment, and tooling for quality, performance, cost, and manufacturability
• •Support process improvements involving mechanical, electrical, or other boat-building systems based on experience and project needs
• •Conduct feasibility studies and testing to evaluate potential process, equipment, material, and design improvements
• •Support employee training and implementation when new or revised processes are introduced
• •Participate in continuous improvement and 5S initiatives throughout the manufacturing operation
• •Follow process changes through implementation to ensure improvements are effective and sustained

What We’re Looking For

• •Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Process, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered
• •Experience in a hands-on manufacturing environment preferred
• •Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, process development, or manufacturing engineering preferred
• •Marine or boat-building experience is a plus!
• •Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and develop practical solutions
• •Ability to use production data and observations to identify trends and improvement opportunities
• •Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across departments and with production employees
• •Self-starter who can identify problems, develop solutions, and move projects forward
• •Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• •Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through
• •Experience with electrical systems, wiring, or schematics is a plus but is not required

Work Environment

This is a hands-on manufacturing role with regular time spent on the production floor. The Process Engineer must be comfortable working around boats, manufacturing equipment, tools, materials, noise, dust, and varying temperatures and must follow all required safety and PPE requirements.
