Product Specialist, Payment Threat Intelligence
Overview:
Mastercard's Services team is responsible for safeguarding trust in payments, both now and in the future. We help ensure that transactions and interactions across the digital economy are safe, simple, and smart.
The Card & Payment Ecosystem Security organization develops intelligence-driven products and capabilities that help customers identify, understand, and respond to emerging fraud and cyber threats impacting the payments ecosystem.
About the Role:
Mastercard is seeking a curious, analytical, and self-directed investigator to join the Payment Threat Intelligence team.
This role focuses on identifying, investigating, and analyzing emerging threats, fraud trends, and criminal activity impacting the global payments ecosystem. Successful candidates are motivated by solving complex problems, connecting disparate pieces of information, and transforming observations into actionable intelligence.
The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in ambiguous environments where investigative paths are not predefined and where persistence, critical thinking, and sound analytical judgment are required to uncover meaningful insights.
Role & Responsibilities:
- -Conduct investigations into emerging fraud schemes, cyber threats, and criminal activity affecting the payments ecosystem.
- -Analyze large and diverse datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, relationships, and trends that may indicate emerging risks.
- -Develop investigative hypotheses and pursue leads using a combination of internal data, open-source research, and intelligence resources.
- -Produce clear, actionable intelligence reports, briefings, and assessments for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- -Monitor developments across the fraud, cybercrime, and payments threat landscape to identify emerging risks and opportunities for further investigation.
- -Collaborate with product, data science, and stakeholder teams to enhance Mastercard's understanding of threats impacting customers and the broader ecosystem.
- -Contribute to the development of methodologies, analytical frameworks, and intelligence processes that improve investigative outcomes.
- -Translate complex analytical findings into intelligence that supports customer decision-making, product strategy, and ecosystem security initiatives.
All About You:
- -Experience conducting investigations, analytical research, intelligence analysis, fraud analysis, cyber threat analysis, or other problem-solving activities involving large or complex datasets.
- -Demonstrated ability to identify patterns, develop hypotheses, and draw conclusions from incomplete or evolving information.
- -Strong research and critical thinking skills with a natural curiosity for understanding how fraud, cyber threats, and criminal ecosystems operate.
- -Ability to work independently, manage multiple lines of inquiry, and drive investigations forward with limited direction.
- -Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex findings to diverse audiences.
- -Experience leveraging quantitative and qualitative information sources to develop actionable insights.
- -Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adapting investigative approaches as new information emerges.
- -Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across technical, analytical, and business-focused teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- -Experience working with payment card, fraud, cyber, risk, intelligence, trust and safety, digital investigations, law enforcement, financial crimes, research, or related domains.
- -Experience leveraging datasets such as authentication, authorization, clearing, transaction, identity, cyber, or intelligence-related data sources.
- -Experience producing analytical reports, intelligence products, threat assessments, or investigative findings for internal or external stakeholders.
Application Requirement:
As part of your application, please include a brief written response describing a fraud trend, cyber threat, criminal activity, or investigative topic that you find particularly interesting and why.
