Production Maker & Graphic Designer
Springfield Leather Company is hiring a maker to join our production team. You will create custom items for customers and make stock inventory for our retail store. This is a hands on job where you will take projects from raw material to a finished product. Your day will involve a mix of computer design work and physical shop labor. This includes setting up graphics, operating machinery, cutting materials, and assembling finished goods.
Core Responsibilities
Graphic Design: Create and prep artwork for custom signs and projects using Adobe products.
Laser Operation: Set up and run laser machines to cut and engrave leather, wood, plastic, and glass.
Shop Equipment: Operate a hydraulic clicker press, hot foil stamping machine, and industrial sewing machines.
Assembly & Finishing: Cut leather, install hardware, use hand tools, and finish edges to complete projects.
Quality Check: Inspect materials before you start and review finished pieces to make sure they match customer orders.
Maintenance: Clean and maintain your lasers and tools so they stay in good working order. Maintain a safe workspace.
Tracking: Keep track of your daily production numbers and let management know if you run low on materials.
Requirements
Software Experience: Strong skills with Adobe design products, especially for sign making and vector layouts.
Machine Skills: Experience with lasers, industrial sewing, or press equipment is a big plus, but we will train you on our specific models.
Physical Ability: Must be able to lift heavy materials like leather sides and wood sheets up to 50 pounds. You will stand and work on your feet for long periods.
Precision: You must have a sharp eye for alignment, clean cuts, and crisp engraving to avoid wasting material.
Schedule: Reliable attendance is required. You must be flexible to work occasional Saturdays or stay for overtime when deadlines approach.
Job Details & Benefits
Position Type: Full Time, Hourly, Non Exempt
Schedule: Monday through Friday, some Saturdays. You will get 2 days off each week.
Hours: Average of 40 hours per week.
Starting Wage: $16.00 per hour.
