Production Operations Internship (Summer 2027)

Amca is building America’s new industrial base. Since the 1990s, our ability to build new aviation and military systems and maintain the ones we already have has eroded. Today, the gap between what the nation needs to produce and what it is capable of producing is the largest it has been in generations.

To help close that gap, Amca rapidly develops and manufactures new critical components and subsystems required to build and sustain the planes, military vehicles, and core infrastructure America needs. Today, we operate seven factories nationwide, including our advanced prototyping and testing headquarters in El Segundo, and deliver avionics, hydraulic, and electrical components for platforms such as the F-35, F-16, F/A-18, 737MAX, 787, A320neo, A321, Mk-48, and M1 Abrams.

Overview

Amca is hiring hands-on production operations interns to help keep tens of thousands of components a month moving through the factories quickly, efficiently, and reliably. The work also supports Protoshop, where the goal is to take new engineered products from design to qualification faster than any other organization in the country.

Interns spend significant time on the floor, machining, testing, and assembling parts, and use what they learn firsthand to make those processes better. The best ideas come from the people doing the work, and improvements show up in output, lead times, and quality. All interns should want to get their hands dirty.

Responsibilities

Work hands-on in machining, assembly, and test, learning how each part is actually made and where the process breaks down

Spot bottlenecks, rework, and wasted motion from the floor, then work with operators and engineers to fix them

Support Protoshop programs as new products move from design through build, testing, and qualification

Develop and document standard work, fixtures, tooling, and process improvements that make production faster and more repeatable

Track throughput, cycle time, yield, and scrap to confirm that changes are working

Coordinate with engineering, supply chain, quality, and program management to keep builds on schedule

Basic Qualifications

Genuine desire to work hands-on in manufacturing, including machining, assembly, and testing

Willingness to spend significant time on the factory floor

Interest in improving how parts are made, with a focus on output, lead times, and quality

Ability to collaborate with operators, engineers, and cross-functional teams such as supply chain, quality, and program management

Preferred Skills and Experience

Hands-on experience machining, assembling, or testing parts or hardware, through coursework, a project team, a job, or personal projects

Experience spotting and fixing process problems such as bottlenecks, rework, or wasted motion

Familiarity with production metrics such as throughput, cycle time, yield, and scrap

Interest in a fast-moving environment where new products go from design to qualification quickly

Hourly Pay Range

$30 — $50 USD
