About the Role

The Technical Program Manager is a critical role responsible for driving execution across Billtrust’s technical program portfolio, from AI-powered product builds to cross-functional infrastructure initiatives. You will leverage AI tools and co-work agents to track workstreams, surface risk early, and keep technical teams moving, focusing your expertise on the judgment calls a program still needs: sequencing trade-offs, unblocking engineering, and translating technical complexity into decisions leadership can act on.

This role sits inside Billtrust’s Strategy Office as it scales to support a growing slate of Strategic Programs/Initiatives. You’ll partner directly with engineering, and hold your own in technical conversations, turning an ambiguous ask into a structured plan with clear owners and dates. This role is based in Nashville, TN, working onsite from our Gulch office. Priorities in this seat shift with the portfolio — you'll be deployed against whatever is most urgent, and you'll be expected to move fast when it changes. This is a build-from-scratch environment: the Strategy Office is standing up execution capacity, and the person in this seat will help define how technical programs get run here.

What You’ll Do

Program Execution

Own end-to-end execution of assigned technical programs and Strategic Programs/Initiatives , from scope definition through delivery, using AI tools to track workstreams and flag risk before it becomes a blocker.

Take a scattered list of open items and convert it into a structured plan with owners, dates, and dependencies, then chase it down to closure.

Build and maintain project plans, timelines, and status reporting for technical initiatives, including Billtrust's internal AI development portfolio. Technical Partnership

Partner directly with engineering teams, holding your own in technical conversations to understand architecture, trade-offs, and constraints well enough to plan around them.

Translate technical complexity into plain-language updates for non-technical stakeholders and leadership.

Use AI co-work agents to draft technical documentation, meeting summaries, and status updates, freeing time for the judgment calls that matter.

Identify and resolve cross-team dependencies before they stall a build.

Portfolio & Reporting

Maintain a real-time view of program health across the technical portfolio and flag risks to leadership early.

Build reporting and dashboards, leveraging AI tools to synthesize data from multiple systems into a single source of truth.

Support the Strategy Office in scaling program management capacity as the Strategic Program portfolio grows.

What You’ll Bring

Required Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, IT/Data, or Engineering.

Systematic thinker — breaks a messy problem into parts, works it in order, and doesn't lose the thread.

3–5 years of experience in technical program or project management, ideally supporting engineering or product teams, or a recent graduate with strong internship or co-op experience in the same.

Demonstrated ability to build AI into personal and team workflows to plan, track, and report on programs.

Comfort operating in ambiguity, able to take a loosely defined ask and structure it into a plan with clear owners and dates.

Working technical fluency, able to hold a substantive conversation with engineers about architecture and trade-offs.

Track record of taking ownership of a messy list of open items and driving it to closure.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to flex between technical and executive audiences.

Preferred Skills:

Experience supporting AI product builds or technical transformation initiatives.

Background in a high-growth or PE-backed environment where speed matters more than process maturity.

PMP, CSM, or equivalent program management certification.

The expected base salary range for this position is $111,138 - $138,923 annually.

Compensation may vary depending on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for additional incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses.
