Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Quality Control Manager to lead the day-to-day quality control function within a manufacturing environment. The role combines technical oversight, people leadership and practical involvement in laboratory and production-related quality activities.

The Quality Control Manager helps ensure that raw materials and products are evaluated against approved quality requirements, that results and records are reliable, and that potential quality concerns are identified and addressed in collaboration with the relevant teams.

Main Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate routine and longer-term quality analyses for raw materials, in-process samples and finished products.

Oversee the daily operation of the QC laboratory, including work priorities, testing activities and the review of results for all AT sites.

Develop, implement and maintain practical QC procedures for sampling, testing, inspections and recordkeeping.

Work with Production to investigate and resolve quality concerns arising during manufacturing while maintaining an independent quality perspective.

Collaborate with Procurement to assess and monitor the quality and consistency of incoming raw materials.

Coordinate investigations into non-conforming or unusual results, support root-cause analysis and follow up on agreed corrective actions.

Monitor quality trends and relevant performance indicators, and identify opportunities to improve consistency, efficiency and reliability.

Manage, train and mentor QC personnel, promoting sound laboratory practice, accountability and continuous development.

Maintain clear and accurate QC documentation, including inspection records, test results, reports and investigation records.

Support internal and external audits, product certifications and compliance activities relevant to the QC function.

Perform other reasonable duties related to the position as required.

Skills and Capabilities

Sound knowledge of quality control procedures, laboratory testing and the interpretation of analytical results.

Strong practical problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.

The ability to identify quality risks, make well-reasoned decisions and escalate significant concerns appropriately.

Strong leadership, planning and team-management capability.

Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to work constructively across departments.

A methodical approach to documentation, traceability and attention to detail.

Working knowledge of relevant quality-management systems, standards and regulatory requirements.

The ability to maintain sound judgement and consistent standards under pressure.

The ability to work in a laboratory and manufacturing environment, including standing for extended periods and handling laboratory equipment.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Sciences or Chemical Engineering. The degree must include a strong laboratory and analytical chemistry component.

At least three years' relevant experience in quality control or quality assurance, preferably in a manufacturing or laboratory environment.

Previous supervisory, team-lead or people-management experience would be advantageous

Formal training or certification in quality management systems, such as ISO 9001 or ISO/IEC 17025, would be advantageous.

Other specific requirements

Full professional proficiency in Afrikaans and English, both written and spoken.

High proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
