Quantum Software Intern - Backend Execution Environment for Quantum Workloads - 2027 (f/m/x)

We're looking for an intern to join a team of experienced backend software engineers to help shape the execution environment that powers quantum workloads today. Depending on shorter-term project needs as well as your interest and skill profile, we will pick a suitable internship project in your first week. You can expect to contribute to one of the areas below: - extending and improving our local developer experience posture around coding agent sandboxing & harness engineering - improving performance and scalability - simplifying and modernizing backend architectures - enhancing observability and reliability Hands-on experience with at least one programming language (e.g. Rust, Python, or Go) Basic knowledge of Docker and containerized environments Good command of English, both written and spoken (B2 level or higher) Experience with agent sandboxing technologies, such as NVIDIA OpenShell or Docker Sandbox Familiarity with coding agent frameworks and harnesses, including OpenCode and Pi Hands-on experience with Kubernetes environments (K3s, Minikube) Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automation practices Experience with Bazel build systems Understanding of event-driven architectures Experience implementing observability solutions using OpenTelemetry Knowledge of distributed systems concepts and architectures German language proficiency at B1 level or higher Germany Software Engineering Hybrid Internship Ehningen, DE (0161) IBM Deutschland Research & Development GmbH
