R&D Technician II - Melting

R&D TECHNICIAN II – MELTING

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE R&D TECHNICIAN II – MELTING:

Support role for melting operations in R&D.

Operate and assist operation of lab-scale VIM, VAR, and ESR furnaces.

Processing – heat preparation, melting, casting, heat treating, cutting operations, and other tasks as assigned.

Prepare experimental heats, rebuild furnaces, melt, and cast heats.

Operate band saws in R&D High Bay.

Provide back-up for other R&D positions as needed.

Ability to work alone or in a team.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE R&D TECHNICIAN II – MELTING:

High school diploma or GED required.

One or more years of related experience.

Technical / mechanical experience is desired. Machinist or melting experience is a plus.

Previous experience operating a tow motor is desired, but will train.

Working knowledge of scientific principles, standards, methods and practices.

Working knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment.

Ability to develop the basic skills needed to set up and operate various pieces of equipment on fairly routine jobs.

Ability to work with moderate supervision.

Ability to work in a production oriented environment.

Interpersonal skills.

Verbal and written communication skills.

Basic laboratory skills.

Ability to lift to 40 lbs. occasionally throughout shift.

Computer skills required. (Microsoft Outlook, Word etc.).

Employee expected to navigate mainframe and LIMS system.

Ability to perform basic calculations necessary for the job.

Attention to detail, ability to follow instructions (written and verbal), and focus on safety are required.

Overtime hours as required.
