There is an urgent need for concerted efforts and investments toward the revitalization of Indigenous languages to arrest and reverse the erosion that has already occurred. Research shows that no Indigenous language in Canada is safe and that all are in varying stages of endangerment.

Indigenous languages are fundamental to the identities, cultures, spirituality, relationships to the land, worldviews, and self-determination of Indigenous peoples.

Indigenous languages have and continue to contribute to the strength of Canada as a whole, including biodiversity and the richness of linguistic and cultural heritage. About the Role

Reporting to the Knowledge Hub Manager, the Research Analyst supports the planning, coordination, implementation, and documentation of research projects that advance Indigenous language revitalization, preservation, and promotion. The position contributes to research activities by organizing project information, conducting research and environmental scans, tracking deliverables, supporting committees and partnerships, and preparing research products and reports.

The Research Analyst plays an important role in ensuring research activities are well coordinated, timelines are maintained, and knowledge generated through research initiatives is documented and accessible for use by Indigenous communities, partners, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Research Coordination and Support

Coordinate research activities, project schedules, and deliverables across multiple initiatives.

Support the implementation of research work plans and project timelines.

Assist with the administration and coordination of research committees, advisory groups, and working groups.

Monitor project milestones and support reporting requirements.

Maintain project documentation, records, and research files.

Coordinate meetings, consultations, and engagement activities with partners and stakeholders.

Works effectively across teams and contributes to Knowledge Hub and organizational priorities.

Research Analysis

Conduct literature reviews, environmental scans, and jurisdictional analyses.

Compile, organize, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data.

Support the development of research reports, discussion papers, briefing notes, and presentations.

Summarize research findings and identify key themes, trends, and opportunities.

Assist in developing evidence-based recommendations to support organizational priorities

Stakeholder and Partnership Support

Support relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, researchers, academic institutions, and partner organizations.

Coordinate information requests and facilitate communication between project partners.

Assist in planning and delivering workshops, meetings, and engagement sessions.

Contribute to collaborative research initiatives and knowledge-sharing activities.

Knowledge Management

Maintain research databases, repositories, and project records.

Ensure research materials are properly catalogued, organized, and accessible.

Support the development of knowledge products including research summaries, fact sheets, and briefing materials.

Contribute to the dissemination of research findings through reports, presentations, and digital resources.

Indigenous Research and Data Governance

Support research activities in accordance with Indigenous data sovereignty principles, OCAP® principles, and ethical research practices.

Assist with data collection, documentation, and management processes.

Ensure research activities respect community protocols and Indigenous ways of knowing.

Knowledge Mobilization

Translate research findings into accessible products for diverse audiences.

Support the development of reports, fact sheets, toolkits, dashboards, and knowledge resources.

Contribute to public awareness and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Provide strategic advice to support evidence-informed decision-making throughout the organization.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Indigenous Studies, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Linguistics, Education, Information Studies, Research Methods, or a related field.

Minimum three years of experience supporting research, policy, program, or knowledge management initiatives.

Experience working with Indigenous communities, organizations, governments, or research environments is considered an asset.

Equivalent combination of education lived experience, and professional experience will be considered.

Knowledge Skills and Competencies

Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.

Experience conducting literature reviews and environmental scans.

Strong organizational and project coordination skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Teams, and research databases.

Ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse partners and stakeholders.

Understanding of Indigenous languages, cultures, histories, and communities.

Knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies and data governance principles.

Assets

Knowledge of one or more Indigenous languages.

Proficiency in an Indigenous language and bilingualism (English/French).
