Position Summary

A Research Lab Manager position is available in Dr. Ai’s laboratory at the division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, Department of Medicine, WashU. Dr. Ai is a basic scientist and an Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr. Ai’s lab focuses on respiratory diseases that affect infants and young children. Dr. Ai has recently moved from MGH, Harvard Medical School, to WashU and is welcoming motivated individuals to help rebuild the lab and resume research activities.

The candidate is expected to perform experiments and summarize the data independently, coordinate other projects in the lab, assist the PI with regulatory compliance, and mentor fellow lab members. Specifically, the experiments are related to a research project that studies respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection of human bronchial epithelial cells. This newly NIH-funded project aims to screen for small-molecule inhibitors that can reduce RSV spread in the infant bronchial epithelial barrier.

Performs, oversees and coordinates research projects. Oversees entire laboratory setting to promote smooth operation, regulatory compliance and interaction with other laboratories.

• •With principal investigator, designs, performs and evaluates research procedures.
• •Assists with grant preparation and journal article submission.
• •Develops and implements policies and procedures. Provides comprehensive direction to laboratory personnel.
• •Hires, trains and evaluates the performance of laboratory personnel.
• •Oversees and directs all support activities of the lab including human resources, budgets, facility maintenance, purchasing, supplies, materials and equipment.
• •Researches and recommends new methods and procedures to maintain current capabilities, quality and standards.

Salary Range

$63,400.00 - $115,000.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
