Research Technologist III - Physiology

Summary

We seek a responsible, experienced, and highly organized Research Technologist III to manage laboratory operations and support ongoing research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Yang Xiao in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Our research focuses on the epigenetic regulation of hepatic and cardiac physiology.

This position combines laboratory management with wet-lab experimentation and dry-lab data analysis. The Research Technologist III will help ensure efficient daily laboratory operations and supporting research personnel. For the wet-lab component, the ideal candidate will have strong experience with mammalian cell culture. For the dry-lab component, basic bioinformatics skills and working knowledge of Linux, R, and Python are required.

Primary Responsibilities

• •Assist with daily laboratory operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, coordinating equipment maintenance, organizing shared laboratory resources and supporting laboratory biosafety compliance.
• •Maintain laboratory documentation, including experimental protocols, laboratory notebooks, data files, training records, equipment logs, and reagent inventories.
• •Train and provide technical guidance to new laboratory members in laboratory safety and basic experimental techniques.
• •Perform mammalian cell culture work
• •Perform bioinformatics analysis
• •Participate in regular laboratory meetings with the Principal Investigator and research staff to discuss experimental progress, interpret results, and troubleshoot technical challenges.
• •Other duties as assigned

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

• •Knowledge of laboratory management, protocol administration, and research record management.
• •Strong resource, inventory, and vendor-management skills.
• •Experience with mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques.
• •Experience with relevant molecular and biochemical techniques is preferred.
• •Ability to perform quantitative, statistical, bioinformatics, or other dry-lab data analysis.
• •Ability to train and provide technical guidance to students, trainees, and new laboratory personnel.
• •Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• •Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work independently with limited supervision.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education an on equivalent basis.

• Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum Required Experience: Three years of relevant research or laboratory experience
• Preferred Education: Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline
• Preferred Experience: Laboratory management, mammalian cell culture, molecular or biochemical techniques, and dry-lab data analysis
• Field: Biology, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related scientific field

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Risk Potential

Little or no exposure to hazards such as dust, fumes, or extreme temperatures, airborne or blood borne pathogens, extreme temperatures, or allergens.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.
