Summary:

The RMT functions as the designated medication-responsible staff for their program, working under the oversight of the Program Registered Nurse (RN) and in-house nursing leadership. In addition to medication responsibilities, this role supports residents of varying ages through supervision, daily care, structured activities, and therapeutic engagement.

The RMT helps maintain a safe, supportive, and recovery-focused environment through medication safety, continuous observation, direct interaction, de-escalation support, and role modeling of healthy coping strategies. This position requires skills in medication administration, crisis response, therapeutic interaction, and documentation while contributing to a high-quality continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of contact for medication-related concerns on the unit, escalating questions, errors, or changes in resident condition to the Program RN or on-site nursing leadership immediately, following the established nursing chain of command.

Collaborate with the Program RN on medication reconciliation, documentation accuracy, refill tracking, and PRN administration.

Accurately obtain and record vital signs, including orthostatic measurements, as directed by nursing staff prior to or following medication administration.

Document medication passes, observations, and relevant resident responses accurately in the medical record in accordance with treatment plan guidelines.

Participate in ongoing nursing-led medication competency validation.

Provide direct care, supervision, and support to residents, including response to crisis situations and behavioral interventions.

Ensure constant awareness of resident whereabouts and safety through active rounding and milieu participation.

Conduct safety checks and environmental rounds to maintain compliance with infection control and security standards.

Observe and report resident behaviors, meals, and progress to the treatment team in accordance with care plans.

Escort residents safely to and from activities, meals, groups, outdoor programming, and appointments as needed.

Support admission and discharge procedures, including belongings searches, documentation, and orientation.

Encourage and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), promoting independence, dignity, and engagement in recovery-oriented routines.

Participate in individual and group therapeutic activities and milieu programming.

Maintain current knowledge of departmental protocols and participate in continued learning and quality improvement initiatives.

Provide peer support and participate in on-the-job training for new RMTs and MHTs as directed by leadership.
