Description

The Risk & Compliance Officer leads and advances the Credit Union's Compliance Program and serves as a key contributor to the organization's Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and overall risk strategy. The position provides strategic and operational leadership in regulatory compliance, risk identification and assessment, regulatory change management, BSA/AML/OFAC oversight, vendor and third-party risk, audit and examination readiness, business continuity, policy governance, compliance education, and technology enabled risk management.

The position applies a forward-looking, risk-based approach to identify current and emerging risks, assess their potential impact, develop appropriate mitigation strategies, and provide actionable insight to management and senior leadership. The Enterprise Risk Officer/Compliance Officer collaborates across the organization to integrate compliance and risk considerations into strategic planning, business decisions, products, services, processes, technology initiatives, vendors, and organizational change.

Approved artificial intelligence (AI), automation, data analytics, and technology tools may be used to improve efficiency, enhance research and analysis, support regulatory monitoring, and assist with reports and documentation while maintaining independent professional judgment and accountability for all decisions and work products.

Requirements

  • What will you be doing:
  • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM): Administer and continuously enhance the ERM framework, enterprise and functional risk assessments, risk appetite alignment, and risk strategy.
  • Identify, evaluate, monitor, and report current and emerging risks; recommend mitigation strategies, controls, risk indicators, metrics, and escalation processes.
  • Oversee vendor and third party risk management and business continuity risk, including risks related to technology, cybersecurity, data, operations, and critical dependencies.
  • Coordinate compliance and risk activities related to internal audits, external audits, independent reviews, and regulatory examinations.
  • Compile findings and management responses, track remediation, identify systemic issues, and provide ongoing reporting to management and appropriate committees. Support sustainable corrective action and maintain complete records of audit, review, and remediation activity.
  • Lead the Credit Union's Compliance Program and serve as a strategic advisor to leadership and business units on compliance and risk matters.
  • Develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures, standards, monitoring, testing, investigations, corrective actions, and remediation processes.
  • Provide practical compliance guidance, maintain compliance resources, coordinate education, and promote effective compliance practices across departments and branches.
  • Monitor, interpret, and communicate applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, and emerging requirements. Assess regulatory changes and coordinate timely implementation of required changes to policies, procedures, products, services, and operations.
  • Prepare and present regulatory reports and support regulatory examinations and related follow-up activities.
  • Oversee the BSA/AML/OFAC Compliance Program, including risk assessments, suspicious activity monitoring and reporting, Currency Transaction Reports, OFAC compliance, investigations, regulatory reporting, training, and program effectiveness. Ensure appropriate documentation, escalation, independent review, and validation of regulatory determinations and filings.
  • Partner with leadership and subject matter experts to develop and maintain policies, procedures, training, committee reporting, and risk awareness programs.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit, Legal, IT, Fraud, Finance, HR, Operations, and other functions on shared governance, risk, and compliance matters.
  • Leverage approved technology, automation, data analytics, and AI to enhance compliance and risk management effectiveness, efficiency, scalability, and organizational resilience.
  • Monitor emerging technology and regulatory risks and recommend strategies, controls, and process improvements to address them. risk reviews with lines of business and the third-party risk assessment vendor.

Qualifications:

  • Five to eight years of similar or related experience in compliance, risk management, financial services, or a related discipline. Demonstrated compliance, regulatory analysis, risk assessment, ERM, audit, or project leadership experience is expected.
  • (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree). Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, risk management, compliance, or a related field.
  • Professional compliance or risk certification preferred, such as CUCE/CCUO, CRCM, or a comparable designation. BSA/AML certification or specialized training preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial institution laws, regulations, compliance principles, ERM concepts, risk appetite, risk assessment methodologies, control effectiveness, risk reporting, and regulatory expectations.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, research, problem-solving, written, verbal, presentation, technology, and data skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, compliance systems, risk platforms, analytics tools, and financial institution technologies.
  • Strong analytic and critical thinking skills along with demonstrated research, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, deadlines, and competing organizational needs in a high-volume, team-oriented environment.

This is a full-time , Hybrid , exempt position with a starting annual salary of $110,000.00, with the opportunity for higher compensation based on experience, education, and qualifications.
