Under general supervision and collaboration with the OR Nurse Manager, the Operating Room Service Line Coordinator is a registered nurse responsible for the coordination, development, and implementation of clinical and operational activities for designated surgical specialties (e.g., orthopedics, vascular, neurosurgery, general surgery, thoracic, pediatrics, podiatry, plastics, urology, GYN, ENT). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, streamlined care by collaborating with surgeons, CPD, materials management, vendors and nursing leadership to optimize service line performance and patient outcomes.

Compensation Pay Range:

$42.02 - $85.13

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• •Manages, plans, and monitors day-to-day clinical operations of specialty services
• •Serves as a clinical and operational liaison between surgeons, surgical staff, hospital leadership and ancillary departments.
• •Identifies and coordinates the needs for physicians in all specialty services and submits new products to Value Analysis Committee based on surgeon preference, offers clinical support and reasoning behind the selections.
• •Acts as a resource for clinical staff, offering guidance on best practices and protocols for the service line, i.e. EPIC documentation, specimen support, patient positioning, surgeon preferences
• •Works collaboratively with physicians, nursing leadership, materials management, CPD and other ancillary departments.
• •Communicates with vendors to support specialty cases and to ensure appropriate equipment and supplies are available for the case.
• •Collaborates with the Charge Nurse to determine room assignments appropriate to the skill level of specialty service team members
• •In collaboration with OR educator provides staff education and training on new: procedures, technologies, protocols, supplies, equipment, etc.
• •Collaborates with team members to ensure all necessary equipment and supplies are available for their cases
• •Assist surgical case scheduling with conflicts in bookings; assists with appropriateness and accuracy of bookings
• •Works to maintain preference card accuracy to reflect appropriate equipment, supplies and instrumentation and clinical workflow optimization.
• •Assists OR leadership analyze service line data, including case volume, outcomes, costs, and efficiency metrics; recommend process improvements based on findings.
• •Assist with budgeting, capital planning, and service line development strategies.
• •Provides OR manager with information to develop the annual budget. Reviews and prioritizes specialty service capital needs.
• •Identifies non-capital equipment and supply needs.
• •Collaborates with OR manager in hiring and evaluating.
• •Informs OR manager and/or Charge Nurse of specialty service activities and issues.
• •Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and infection control guidelines.
• •Assists materials management with inventory of specialty supply and consignment inventory
• •Monitors room turnover and assist with case set up as needed
• •Acts as a liaison between vendors and biomed for repair of specialty equipment
• •Covering Charge RN as needed during periods of vacation or illness
• •Covering other Service Line Coordinators responsibilities as needed during periods of vacation or illness

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing as validated through the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing

Minimum Work Experience

5 Years of OR nursing experience required. 2 years of management experience preferred.

Demonstrates proficiency in acute care nursing knowledge and skills.

Demonstrated leadership ability and potential managerial competency. Evidence of this includes but is not limited to, effective communication skills, ability to deal well with people, ability to problem solve, ability to confront/resolve issues, ability to motivate others, ability to plan, organize and direct the activities of others.

Membership in professional organizations is recommended and certification in specialty areas is encouraged.
