Duties

At the full performance level, you will support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSA) by providing a variety of legal assistance and office support services. If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Duties include: Managing daily operations of the supervisor(s) office and exercising full authority over calendars, appointments, and commitments. Reviewing, editing, and finalizing correspondence, reports, and legal documents for accuracy, policy compliance, and alignment with supervisor priorities. Screening calls, visitors, and mail; assessing urgency; resolving issues or directing inquiries; and ensuring follow-up on required actions. Coordinating meetings, conferences, and travel by preparing agendas, assembling materials, arranging logistics, attending sessions, and documenting minutes and action items. Performing special assignments by gathering information, providing recommendations, managing AUSA applicant files and interviews, and arranging law enforcement meetings. Examines, prepares, and processes a variety of technical legal documents which are characteristically voluminous and moderately complex in format. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

GS-08: To be eligible at the GS-08 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following duties: exercising control over the supervisor's calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences; receiving telephone calls and visitors, screening those which could be handled without supervisor's help; reading, screening, and controlling incoming mail; preparing necessary documents for investigative and litigative steps; organizes electronic case files, discovery materials, exhibits and other legal documents; performing a variety of special assignments of a one-time or recurring nature for the supervisor; and providing the supervisor with information, feedback, opinions, suggestions, and recommendations on various administrative matters and topics. GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing the following types of duties: reviewing all outgoing correspondence prepared for the supervisor's signature, e.g., action documents, case files, legal documents, and reports; composing a variety of written material for the supervisor's signature; developing a variety of recurring reports and documents which involve obtaining information from staff, subject files or other sources; arranging conferences and meetings for the supervisor; and organizing electronic case files, discovery materials, exhibits and other legal documents. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
