THE ROLE

• Position: Security Guard
• Competition Number: CNS 2026-09-08
• Location: North End Halifax
• Reports to: Site Supervisor

• Rate of Pay: $19.00–$21.00 per hour
• Working Hours: Various shifts based on operational requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide access control at the main site entrance, exit, and building entrance through identification verification

Conduct roving foot patrols of assigned areas to help maintain the security of the site and perimeter

Monitor security systems, cameras, and alarms, where applicable

Create and issue building access and identification passes

Conduct vehicle searches prior to entry to the site

Provide security monitoring during concrete pours, as required

Maintain accurate daily logs and records of site activities and incidents

Protect people, property, and information

Ensure health and safety requirements are followed in the workplace

Adhere to CNS' Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, systems, and practices, as well as those of the Client

Follow CNS policies, Site Work Instructions, and direction from the Site Supervisor

Perform other security-related duties as required

WHO WE’RE SEEKING

• - Computer literacy, and/or an aptitude to learn is an asset

• - demonstrate a strong work ethic and “Can Do” attitude
• - react calmly, quickly, and appropriately in any crisis
• - concentrate and remain alert for up to 12 hours
• - communicate observed characteristics/behaviour (good memory)
• - demonstrate problem-solving and sound judgement

• Physical fitness with an ability to:
• - climb multiple flights of stairs with ease
• - navigate uneven terrain during foot patrols (in all weather conditions)
• - display good dexterity and balance
• - rely on all senses in assessing changes to the work environment

Basic Requirements:

Be aged 19 or older;

Have eligibility to work in Canada;

Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted;

Be able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check;

Be eligible to apply for, and attain, a Government of Canada personnel security clearance, Secret Security Clearance and Controlled Goods Clearance

Possession of a valid Nova Scotia's Driver's License, or reliable transportation to/from the worksites is preferred
