**Note - this shift is full time, M-F, Days, no weekends.

The Security Officer provides security services to VCUHS by courteously assisting staff, visitors and patients; enforcing rules and regulations of the hospitals; projecting a positive image; and promoting a safe healthcare environment.

The Security Officer conveys an image of professionalism, behaving in a way that is conducive to good hospital and community relations. This is an unarmed, non-sworn security position.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: N/A

  • Experience REQUIRED:
  • Previous knowledge of security and/or law enforcement measures and techniques at a level generally acquired during 6 to 12 months of on-the-job training and orientation in such techniques or college curriculum in Administration of Justice
  • Experience PREFERRED:
  • One (1) year of security, public safety or law enforcement work experience
  • Education/training REQUIRED:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Education/training PREFERRED:
  • Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
  • Independent action(s) required:
  • De-escalates agitated patients, both individually and as a member of a team.
  • Prevent potentially risky and/or violent situations.

  • Additional position requirements:
  • Ability to work all shifts including weekends and holidays and extended hours based on schedule and organizational needs.
  • Some Security Officer roles may require valid Virginia Driver’s License and acceptable driving record that reflects safe and lawful motor vehicle operation
  • Age Specific groups served:
  • Pediatric, Adolescence, Adult, Geriatric
  • Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate):
  • Physical - Lifting 20-50 lbs.
  • Activities: Prolonged standing, Prolonged sitting, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other)
  • Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking
  • Emotional: Fast pace environment, Able to handle multiple priorities, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent change

Compensation Range

$15.69 - $23.53 Actual salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
