Job Description:

• •We are seeking a Senior Associate, Finance Data Analytics & Insights to join our Toronto-based finance data team. This role sits at the centre of SLC Management's finance data vision and acts as the bridge between the business and our data infrastructure — translating what leaders need into how data is structured, governed, and reported, and then turning that data into executive-ready analytics and insight.
• •The successful candidate will own data that underpins accurate and timely external financial and non-financial reporting, generate the management reporting and metrics our leadership team uses to run and optimize the business, and lead initiatives to automate and streamline our end-to-end finance data operations.
• •This is deliberately a well-rounded mandate. We are looking for someone with genuine business acumen and an understanding of alternative asset management, who is equally comfortable in a room with senior leaders and in the details of a data model. The role carries direct management accountability, including coaching and development. We welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds — finance, data and analytics, engineering, investment banking, private equity, or consulting.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• •Business partnership and translation — Act as the bridge between finance and business stakeholders and our data and technology teams, gathering requirements, defining use cases, and translating business questions into data and reporting solutions that actually get used
• •Data management and integrity — Own and maintain the finance and non-finance data that underpins external reporting, including data structure, classifications, lineage, quality checks, and reconciliation across business units
• •Management reporting — Produce and continuously improve the management reporting package and metrics used by the SLC leadership team, including alignment of classifications and streamlining of the package
• •Analytics and insight generation — Move beyond reporting to identify trends, variances, and drivers; deliver clear, executive-ready analysis and recommendations rather than data dumps
• •Visualization and BI — Build, enhance, and maintain Power BI dashboards and self-serve reporting; support rollout and adoption across business units
• •FP&A systems and data platforms — Support implementation and ongoing use of enterprise planning and data platforms, including the migration of our data warehouse and implementation of future FP&A enterprise tools
• •Automation and GenAI — Identify and implement opportunities to automate and streamline finance data operations end-to-end, including the application of GenAI-based approaches such as a chatbot enabling leaders to engage directly with our finance data repository
• •Controls environment — Maintain a strong controls mindset over finance data, ensuring accuracy, completeness, auditability, and appropriate review across reporting processes
• •Executive communication — Prepare clear, well-structured presentations and written analysis for senior finance and business leaders
• •Cross-functional collaboration — Maintain strong working relationships with affiliate finance teams, SLC IT, Sun Life IT, and SLC Finance functions
• •People leadership — Manage, coach, and develop junior team members, setting clear standards for analytical quality and attention to detail
• •Project delivery — Run and support multiple concurrent initiatives against tight timelines, sequencing work and keeping stakeholders informed

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

Approximately 4–7 years of relevant experience; we welcome varied backgrounds including corporate finance or FP&A, data and analytics, engineering, investment banking, private equity, or management consulting

Experience in or demonstrated understanding of asset management, alternative investments, or financial services is strongly preferred

Demonstrated experience building and maintaining dashboards and reporting in a BI/visualization tool, ideally Power BI

Comfort working with databases and structured data environments (e.g., SQL, data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake); hands-on experience with enterprise FP&A or planning tools (e.g., OneStream, Anaplan, Hyperion) is an asset

Practical experience applying generative AI tools (e.g., Microsoft 365 Copilot or comparable platforms) to improve analysis, reporting, or productivity is preferred; genuine curiosity to apply them more rigorously is essential

Coding exposure (e.g., Python, SQL, VBA, or similar) is helpful but not strictly required — we care more about aptitude and willingness to learn

Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint is required, including the ability to build executive-quality presentation materials

Experience preparing analysis or materials for senior stakeholders

Prior mentorship or people leadership experience is an asset

CPA, CFA, or relevant data/analytics certifications are a nice to have, not a requirement
