Job Summary

The Senior Business Development Manager – CIN Energy is responsible for driving strategic growth through the acquisition of new customers, expansion of existing customer relationships, and development of industry-focused solutions across key vertical markets. This customer-facing role combines business development, technical sales, and market strategy execution. This position is an individual contributor role and does not include formal people management responsibilities. The role is tactical, strategic, and critical to the success of the organization in its growth, and requires a substantial degree of dedication, passion, and desire to excel in the role.

The ideal candidate is an experienced sales professional with a strong background in low-voltage technologies within the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) segment of the U.S. electrical grid. This individual possesses a deep understanding of the devices, systems, and applications supporting high-voltage infrastructure, including the technical principles that drive their deployment and operation. The role requires expertise in control, protection, and telemetry solutions used throughout the T&D environment, as well as advanced knowledge of the hardware and software tools that enable grid modernization initiatives. The successful candidate will leverage this technical and industry knowledge to identify opportunities, develop customer-focused solutions, and drive business growth across the energy sector.

Responsibilities

Executes company strategic mission and vision in the Energy Market. Manage business development efforts within the Applications & Engineered Projects Hubs, ensuring alignment with segment and industry strategies.

Develop relationships with customers, partners, consultants, and integrators.

Collaborate with engineering, product management, marketing, logistics, services, and regional sales teams.

Understand, develop, and execute unique partner engagements throughout the region

Articulate to internal and external stakeholders the AEP mission and vision to create streams of revenue in the defined vertical markets

Research prospective accounts in targeted markets, pursue leads and follow through individually and as part of a collaborative effort with regional sales members, marketing, product team and senior management

Understand the target markets, including industry, company, project, company contacts and which market strategies can be used to attract clients

Act tactically and exhibit strategic acumen, able to navigate organically between the two

Enhance the organizations' internal and external reputation through active initiative and ownership for accomplishing new and different objectives, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

Continuous improvement of job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations and attending industry events

Maintain relationships with current clients and identify new prospects within the area you have been assigned

Cultivate cross-silo relationships - Regional Sales / Field & Corporate Engineering / Product & Marketing / Logistics & Services, with the primary goal of creating value to external stakeholders

Executes company mission with appropriate levels of transparency, a high degree of integrity and active leadership

Apply sales acumen across multiple disciplines—including Critical Infrastructure, Applications, and Engineered Projects—leveraging transferable skills to support solution development.

Demonstrate professional expertise in assigned segment, providing mentorship and technical leadership as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, Technical Discipline, or related field a plus.

5–10 years of experience in business development, project sales, or technical sales.

Strong understanding of industry application solutions and application-based selling in Energy market.

Strong understanding of Ethernet networking technologies and communications standards in the Energy market.

Industry-Specific Expertise Preferred

Energy: Transmission and distribution markets, utility automation, telemetry, control systems, and grid modernization.

Critical Infrastructure: Communications infrastructure, Critical Infrastructure Networking, Personnel Safety, Asset Integrity, and Operational Resiliency

Demonstrates the ability to deliver results by solving or supporting others in solving problems, prioritizing tasks, and/or resources, and focusing on outcomes.

Demonstrates the ability to drive customer value through knowledge of the business, putting effort into identifying customer needs, and delivering work to maximize the value for customers.

Demonstrates a willingness to promote the value of improvement and innovation by staying ahead of trends, creating ideas and opportunities, and generating speed.

Demonstrates a willingness to take ownership by making decisions, taking responsibility, and driving things forward.

High degree of proficiency in CRM, MS Office back office

Conduct self as a self-starter and adopt leadership traits in both internal and external engagements

Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to transfer knowledge accurately and succinctly across internal and external audiences

Creative, problem solver, set and meet deadlines and company objectives

Strong ability to triage priorities, with high level of attention in execution

Ability to travel minimum of 50% through defined geography and business areas

Demonstrates a willingness to collaborate with others, build relationships, and involve others in decision making.

Demonstrates self-awareness and the willingness to learn and grow, accept changes, and effectively adapt to changing work demands.

Essential Job Functions

Must be able to travel via airplane for up to 8 hours

Ability to travel domestically up to 65%.

Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel via automobile for up to six hours at a time

Must be able to travel overnight

Occasional international travel may be required.

Must be able to communicate effectively in English.

Must be able to sit for 4 hours at a time

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time

Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
