About the Team

The FIS Legal team is comprised of 200+ attorneys and paraprofessionals worldwide who are a part of the Legal, Compliance & Corporate Affairs (LCCA) group, which includes 600+ professionals who serve as advisors to and partners with our businesses. Teams within our group work collaboratively with each other and with our business colleagues to solve problems in an effective and pragmatic manner. We view our role as one of strategic enablement and support for our business leaders in a variety of legal, compliance and corporate affairs matters. We strive to assist our businesses in meeting their objectives with sound, reasonable and well-considered legal counsel and compliance analysis and support.

About the Role

As Product Counsel, you will serve as a strategic legal partner for assigned financial technology products and services. You will provide practical, risk-calibrated advice throughout the product lifecycle, from early design and development through launch, commercialization, ongoing support and retirement. You will collaborate with product, technology, sales, compliance, privacy, security and business leaders to support responsible innovation, efficient contracting and client trust. Success requires strong legal judgment, technical fluency and the ability to translate complex requirements into actionable business guidance.

What You Will Do

Own the legal strategy for assigned products throughout development, launch, commercialization, ongoing support and retirement.

Advise stakeholders on product design, delivery models, data flows, regulatory requirements and third-party dependencies.

Develop legal roadmaps aligned with product milestones, required approvals, contract readiness and go-to-market plans.

Counsel business teams on banking, payments, data, privacy, security, intellectual property and consumer protection matters.

Draft, negotiate and maintain product terms, commercial agreements, specifications, pricing attachments and client-facing documentation.

Support sales negotiations, strategic partnerships, requests for proposals and client discussions involving complex product issues.

Coordinate with compliance and legal specialists to deliver consistent, practical guidance and resolve cross-functional dependencies.

Advise on vendor relationships, subcontracting, service levels, audits, incident response and operational commitments.

Identify recurring legal and negotiation issues, then develop scalable templates, playbooks, training and escalation guidance.

Support product-related disputes and operational matters through factual analysis, risk assessment and practical resolution strategies.

What you Bring

Juris Doctor degree and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.

Seven or more years of relevant legal experience supporting financial services, fintech, technology or enterprise software businesses.

Demonstrated experience advising products throughout development, commercialization, contracting, support and lifecycle management.

Strong drafting and negotiation skills across technology agreements, product terms and complex commercial transactions.

Ability to evaluate multifaceted legal and regulatory issues and provide clear, risk-calibrated recommendations.

Technical fluency sufficient to understand product architecture, data flows, delivery models and technology-related legal risks.

Strong stakeholder-management skills and experience partnering with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.

Ability to prioritize high-volume, business-critical work and drive complex projects to timely completion.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting banking, payments, data, artificial intelligence, fraud, financial crime or enterprise platform products.

Knowledge of privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, intellectual property and technology governance requirements.

Experience advising banks, credit unions, payment providers or other regulated financial services organizations.

Familiarity with software-as-a-service, hosted, cloud, on-premise, application programming interface or integrated delivery models.

Experience developing scalable contract templates, legal playbooks, training materials and process improvements.

Experience supporting client audits, security reviews, vendor risk assessments and third-party technology relationships.
