About The Role

As Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide practical, hands-on legal support across commercial, privacy, product, and regulatory matters for both KOHO Tech and KOHO Bank (letters patent pending).

You will work closely with essentially all parts of the business, including Product, Partnerships, Marketing, Risk, Compliance, and Tech teams, helping the business move quickly while staying compliant, protecting customers, and managing legal risk for KOHO as a whole.

This role is ideal for a generalist lawyer who enjoys variety, wants exposure to a regulated bank environment, and is comfortable rolling up their sleeves across a wide range of legal work.

What You’ll Do

Partner across KOHO Tech and KOHO Bank to provide practical, day-to-day legal advice that supports growth while protecting customers.

Contracts

Support Product and Partnerships teams in structuring and documenting strategic partnerships.

Draft and negotiate vendor agreements.

Draft and maintain contract templates, and support contract lifecycle management and legal workflow standards.

Support Enterprise and Third-Party Risk Management initiatives.

Product/Regulatory

Advise on laws and regulations relevant to financial services, consumer protection, marketing, and privacy.

Draft T&Cs and disclosures.

Review marketing collateral and customer communications for compliance.

Support the design and launch of new products and features, helping identify risks early and find compliant solutions.

Support customer-facing teams on complaint handling, communications, and fairness considerations.

Help build scalable, bank-ready legal and regulatory processes to support long-term growth.

Privacy

Support privacy law matters, including tracking requirements, maintaining compliance policies, responding to third-party due diligence requests, and handling data subject requests.

Corporate / Legal Operations

Support the VP, Legal, on general corporate law and legal ops matters (Board resolutions, due diligence requests, corporate registrations, employment matters, external counsel management, etc.).

What You’ll Bring

Experience

6–8 years of post-call experience as a lawyer practicing in Canada (in-house and/or at a law firm).

Strong contract negotiation and drafting skills (experience in tech procurement is a plus).

Familiarity with privacy law, consumer protection, and financial services regulation (experience in fintech or banking is a plus).

Nice to Have's

Experience in the fintech industry, banking, or at a regulated financial institution.

Familiarity with privacy laws, the Financial Consumer Protection Framework (FCPF), and AML laws.

Experience with lending products or payment services.

Experience and interest designing and implementing legal AI workflows and tooling.

Fluent in French.

The budgeted salary range for this role is $180,000 - $210,000 CAD / year.

Ce que vous ferez

Collaborer avec KOHO Tech et KOHO Bank afin de fournir des conseils juridiques pratiques au quotidien qui soutiennent la croissance de l’entreprise tout en protégeant sa clientèle.

Contrats

Soutenir les équipes Produits et Partenariats dans la structuration et la documentation de partenariats stratégiques.

Rédiger et négocier des ententes avec les fournisseurs.

Rédiger et tenir à jour les modèles de contrats, et contribuer à la gestion du cycle de vie des contrats ainsi qu’à l’établissement de normes en matière de processus juridiques.

Soutenir les initiatives de gestion des risques liés aux entreprises et aux tiers.

Produits et réglementation

Conseiller l’entreprise sur les lois et règlements applicables aux services financiers, à la protection des consommateurs, au marketing et à la protection de la vie privée.

Rédiger les modalités et conditions ainsi que les documents d’information.

Examiner les documents marketing et les communications destinées à la clientèle afin d’en assurer la conformité.

Soutenir la conception et le lancement de nouveaux produits et de nouvelles fonctionnalités, en aidant à cerner les risques rapidement et à trouver des solutions conformes.
