ABOUT onX
We’re a team of builders, adventurers, and risk takers using technology to help people confidently explore the outdoors. Driven by our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone, we build products that optimize every outdoor experience and inspire confidence to get out and go further.
We’re a high-growth tech company. The pace is fast, the work takes grit, and ambiguity is part of the job. As the world changes around us, we adapt - continuously evolving how we build, prioritize, and deliver.
Our business moves quickly, and there’s real opportunity to shape what we build next. Each of our verticals - Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish - is at a different stage of maturity, which means the challenges you encounter and the impact you have will vary depending on where you sit and what the business needs most.
We operate with an experimentation mindset, continually iterating and improving how we solve problems. We expect our people to use the latest tooling, including AI, thoughtfully and responsibly, pairing human judgment with technology to increase quality, speed, and impact.
Our impact comes to life through the products we build, in the stories of our customers, and in our growing commitment to land stewardship and recreational access.
ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
onX is seeking a Senior Product Manager, Content with a passion for turning offroad customer problems into connected, trustworthy content and data. Your focus will be on Offroad's content and data strategy — defining what data we need to solve customer jobs-to-be-done and how our systems and partnerships bring that data to life, from trail and POI content through third-party and land-manager data. You will be a part of our Offroad Product team, which turns customer research into a product and content roadmap that makes onX Offroad the trusted authority for getting off-road with confidence. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a dynamic, growing company focused on making an impact on the business, and to build the data and content foundation an entire product experience is built on. This role will serve as the strategic owner of Offroad's content and data model, and the direct connective tissue between customer research, third-party/land-manager data, and the Trail Guide contributor community at onX and will report to the Head of Product for Offroad.
- WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Essential Job Duties & Functions
Own Offroad's content and data strategy — translating customer JTBD (jobs-to-be-done) and market research into a clear point of view on what content (trails, POIs, UGC-sourced conditions, land data, basemaps, and emerging content layers) is needed, and how it should be structured and connected, in close alignment with overall Offroad product strategy.
Directly own research and exploration of third-party data, including identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing new external data sources to expand coverage and unlock new capabilities.
Partner closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and Content to prioritize the content roadmap and define requirements (data model, schema and UX) that turns content strategy into shipped product.
Champion the customer's end-to-end experience with content — thinking beyond the data model and schema to how trail, POI, and land content actually shows up for the off-roader in the field and makes a meaningful difference in their experience
Own the measurement and analysis of content’s impact on customer behavior, conversion and ROI, and utilize those insights to inform strategic direction.
Build and manage relationships with land management agencies (BLM, USFS, state and local land managers) and other data providers — interpreting regulations, sourcing new data, and negotiating licensing and acquisition agreements.
Manage the Trail Guide Program (community and contributed content) through a direct report, setting direction and goals for the program while its Program Owner owns day-to-day execution across contributor acquisition, community management, and trail content delivery.
Represent Offroad's content and data roadmap, priorities, and risks to product and cross-functional leadership.
Collect and channel market trends, customer feedback, and research to continuously sharpen content and data priorities as the Offroad product evolves.
Look for opportunities to embed AI as a repeatable co-pilot in daily workflows by integrating experimentation into real work, and continuously refining its use with sound judgment and validation.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor's degree in a related field (Geography, GIS, Business, Data/Analytics) or equivalent experience.
Eight (8) or more years of experience leading software products or platforms, including at least four (4) years of product management and three (3) years in content strategy, data management, or program management.
Ideally, some of this experience is within geospatial data, outdoor recreation, or consumer technology.
Demonstrated experience translating customer needs into content or data-model requirements in partnership with product, design and engineering teams.
Demonstrated experience and genuine curiosity about end-user experience and jobs-to-be-done — a track record of thinking beyond the backend data model to how content shows up for and creates value for the customer
Genuine, credible ties to the off-road, overlanding, or powersports community.
Comfort moving between technical conversations (data models, schemas) and relationship-driven conversations (partners, contributor community) in the same day.
Demonstrated people-leadership experience, or a clear track record of directing the work of others without direct authority.
A strong curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI
A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.
Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
Ability to travel quarterly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp.
ADDED BONUSES
Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
Direct experience working with land management agencies (BLM, USFS, state parks) or third-party geospatial data licensing.
Experience building and managing external partnerships or data relationships — e.g., government agencies, land managers, or data vendors/licensors.
Experience scaling a contributor, community, or ambassador-style program.
Familiarity with GIS platforms, geospatial data pipelines, or knowledge-graph/data-model concepts.
THE ONX EXPERIENCE
onX is a distributed company with more than 400 employees across the country. We come together regularly to work in person and stay connected through regional basecamps and a culture that balances individual ownership with deep collaboration.
While we move quickly, we’re not a scrappy start-up. We operate with clear goals, structure, and frameworks that guide how we prioritize and execute. Priorities matter. While they may shift, data shapes how we evolve as our business, products, and the world around us change.
Clear priorities and structure don’t limit ownership - they make it possible. You’ll have the autonomy to define your work and make meaningful decisions within clear strategic boundaries. You’ll partner closely with others to solve complex problems and build solutions that scale across teams and platforms. Along the way, you’ll be supported with feedback, tools, and opportunities to grow your craft as you take on new challenges.
WHERE YOU CAN WORK
onX has created a thriving distributed workforce designed to foster connection, collaboration, and shared experience across several US locations. We have two HQ locations in Bozeman and Missoula, MT and established virtual workforce Basecamps in Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
