Position Summary

The Senior Software Engineer designs, develops, and supports enterprise software applications that enable laboratory and business operations. This role works closely with architects, developers, product stakeholders, laboratory operations, and IT teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable solutions.

You will serve as a senior technical contributor, providing technical guidance, contributing to architectural and design decisions, mentoring other developers, and supporting application modernization and healthcare interoperability initiatives.

Responsibilities

• •Design, develop, test, implement, and support enterprise applications and APIs using Python and modern software engineering practices.
• •Build scalable and secure cloud-based solutions using AWS, including services such as EC2 and Lambda.
• •Design and optimize data models, queries, and database solutions using PostgreSQL and other relational databases.
• •Develop and support integrations with LIS/LIMS, EHR systems, laboratory instruments, and enterprise platforms using RESTful APIs and healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
• •Develop scalable web applications using Django and other modern frameworks, as appropriate.
• •Participate throughout the SDLC, from requirements and solution design through testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
• •Troubleshoot complex application and production issues while supporting application performance, reliability, security, and compliance requirements, including HIPAA.
• •Conduct code reviews, promote software development best practices, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to other developers.
• •Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders and contribute to Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• •Provide on-call or after-hours support as needed for critical business systems and perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Required

• •Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
• •5+ years of progressive software engineering experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise applications.
• •Advanced proficiency in Python, including application and API development.
• •Experience with AWS cloud technologies, including EC2, Lambda, or related services.
• •Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational database platforms.
• •Experience developing APIs, integrations, and RESTful services.
• •Experience working in Agile software development environments.
• •Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

• •Experience developing web applications using Django.
• •Experience in healthcare, clinical laboratory, or another regulated environment.
• •Experience with LIS/LIMS, EHR systems, or other healthcare technology platforms and interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR.
• •Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, microservices, or containerization.
• •Experience mentoring developers or providing technical leadership within project teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• •Strong understanding of software engineering principles, application architecture, design patterns, and modern SDLC practices.
• •Strong knowledge of APIs, relational databases, cloud technologies, and application integration.
• •Understanding of secure coding, data privacy, and application security practices.
• •Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• •Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
