Senior Software Engineer, Internal DevEx

The Role:

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build a new team focused entirely on internal developer experience. You'll shape how Aiven engineers write, test and ship code, from development environments and internal tooling to CI/CD pipelines. Every improvement you make lands directly in the daily work of every engineering team at Aiven. We want a generalist who knows software engineering best practices, is equally comfortable writing a fast, robust shell script and managing cloud infrastructure, and wants to build up a team from day one.

What You'll Do:

Work with engineering teams to identify and prioritise concrete problems, then fix them.

Own and improve our CI/CD pipelines.

Build new developer tooling, or pick the best existing tools, and drive their adoption.

Set sensible defaults for the whole organisation, such as project templates, testing conventions and documentation.

Help shape how humans and AI agents develop safely side by side.

What We're Looking For:

Professional Experience: Several years in professional software engineering teams, shipping and maintaining software in production.

Ownership Instinct: You're the person who fixed the flaky build, wrote the onboarding script or cleaned up the pipeline because it was slowing your team down, even when nobody asked.

Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with Linux, containers and Infrastructure as Code.

Communication: Fluency in English, written and verbal.

Observability (nice-to-have) : Experience with observability tooling.

UX Sensibility (nice-to-have) : Familiarity with user experience or product design, or a habit of treating your fellow engineers as users.

Open-Source Data Technologies (nice-to-have) : Familiarity with open source data technologies such as Apache Kafka®, PostgreSQL® or ClickHouse®.
