Job Summary
As a Software Engineer (Quality Engineering) at Telstra, you will be responsible for driving quality across the software development lifecycle through modern test automation, AI-powered quality engineering practices, and continuous testing. You will partner closely with developers, architects, and product teams to build scalable automation frameworks, enable shift-left testing, and deliver reliable, high-quality customer experiences at scale. Leveraging technologies such as Playwright, Selenium, Java, Azure, CI/CD, and Generative AI tools, you will help accelerate software delivery while maintaining engineering excellence and operational resilience.
Role Overview
We are looking for a passionate and innovative Quality Engineer who thrives on automation, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. This role will focus on building scalable test automation solutions, driving Shift-Left quality practices, and leveraging AI-powered capabilities to transform software testing and delivery.
You will work closely with developers, architects, product teams, and technology leaders to ensure quality is embedded throughout the software development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks for Web, API, Mobile, and Backend applications.
Build and integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to enable faster, reliable, and high-quality deployments.
Champion Shift-Left testing by identifying quality risks early and embedding testability into solution design.
Collaborate closely with engineers and product teams to drive quality throughout the development lifecycle.
Continuously enhance automation coverage, framework reliability, and testing efficiency.
Analyze test results and quality metrics to provide actionable insights and improve product quality.
Design and execute functional, integration, regression, API, and performance testing strategies.
Drive adoption of AI-powered quality engineering practices, including intelligent test generation, defect analysis, and test optimization.
Evaluate emerging testing tools, AI technologies, and automation capabilities to improve engineering productivity.
Mentor and enable teams to adopt best practices in quality engineering and test automation.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong passion for automation, innovation, and eliminating manual effort through engineering solutions.
Hands-on experience in automation testing using: Java Playwright Selenium API Testing Appium
Proven experience designing and implementing scalable automation frameworks and testing solutions.
Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical problem-solving skills.
Experience with TDD, BDD, CI/CD practices, and modern software engineering methodologies.
Working knowledge of SQL, databases, and data validation techniques.
Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or Locust.
Familiarity with cloud technologies, preferably Microsoft Azure.
Experience with cloud-based testing platforms such as BrowserStack and LambdaTest.
Strong understanding of Agile delivery and cross-functional collaboration.
Hands-on experience leveraging Generative AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, and similar AI assistants to enhance engineering productivity.
Understanding of AI/LLM testing, Prompt Engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and quality assurance practices for AI-powered applications.
Experience implementing AI-driven testing approaches, including intelligent test generation, self-healing automation frameworks, and predictive quality engineering techniques.
Continuous learner with a passion for emerging technologies and innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience facilitating quality engineering workshops, communities of practice, or technical training sessions.
Telecommunications domain experience, particularly OSS/BSS platforms.
Knowledge of Security Testing, Mobile Automation, and Contract Testing.
Experience testing AI, Machine Learning, or Generative AI-enabled applications.
Familiarity with Azure OpenAI, GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted development tools, or similar AI ecosystems.
Experience designing and executing large-scale performance and load testing solutions.
Exposure to DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
