Description:

This individual is responsible to plan and implement habilitative/rehabilitative programs for individuals who exhibit speech/language/swallowing problems. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• •Plans, directs, evaluates, and conducts habilitative and rehabilitative programs to treat speech, language and/or swallowing disorders.
• •Prepares written reports of diagnostic findings, intervention techniques used, progress made and follow-up status in a timeframe according to policy and procedure.
• •Develops treatment plans, directs, supervises, and treats patients/caregiver in accordance with treatment plan.
• •Consults and communicates with patient, family, providers, and nursing staff.
• •Assist multidisciplinary team with discharge planning and establishes home therapy programs.
• •Completes required documentation on patients and maintains other department records in accordance with departmental, health center policies and procedures.
• •Assists in cost containment through efficient use of work time and supplies
• •Promotes efficient utilization of resources/supplies. Ensures charges are appropriate based on services provided adhering to productivity guidelines.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• •Master’s degree in the area of Speech/Language Pathology
• •Must have demonstrated competence in an acute patient care setting for at least one year. CFY supervision is available for those with no experience
• •Current licensure from the Iowa Department of Public Health
• •Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is desirable.
• •Special aptitudes include tact, understanding and compassion and ability to communicate well with other professionals, patients and their families, both verbal and written
