Sr Engineer, R&D Software Quality (Playwright Automation)

As a Sr Engineer, R&D Software Quality (Playwright Automation), you will lead the design and development of scalable automated testing solutions for a modern microservices-based platform. Playwright will be your primary automation framework, enabling robust end-to-end, API, and cross-browser testing across enterprise applications. You will also leverage AI-powered testing approaches to improve test design, coverage, maintenance, and quality insights.

Working closely with Product Management, Software Development, DevOps, and Quality Engineering teams, you will define testing strategy, solve complex technical challenges, and help deliver reliable software that accelerates clinical research worldwide.

What You’ll Be Doing

• •Serve as a senior technical contributor within the Software Quality Engineering team.
• •Lead the design, development, and evolution of scalable Playwright-based automation frameworks for web, API, and end-to-end testing.
• •Develop and maintain reusable automation libraries and testing solutions using JavaScript and modern test automation practices.
• •Review product requirements and engineering specifications to define testing strategies, estimate effort, and identify quality risks.
• •Create comprehensive test plans that combine manual validation, automated testing, and risk-based coverage.
• •Implement automated testing solutions that integrate seamlessly into CI/CD pipelines to support rapid and reliable software delivery.
• •Apply AI-assisted approaches to test creation, script maintenance, test data generation, failure analysis, and quality improvement.
• •Establish repeatable testing methods and automation standards that support parallel product development and delivery.
• •Test microservices-based solutions through functional, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing.
• •Troubleshoot complex failures by analysing SQL results, application and server logs, test environments, and service interactions.
• •Collaborate closely with Software Development, Product Management, DevOps, System Administration, and Database Administration teams to resolve quality issues.
• •Maintain requirements traceability, test cases, execution evidence, and defect records within test management systems.
• •Review work completed by other engineers and provide technical guidance, mentoring, and constructive feedback.
• •Investigate root causes of quality issues and drive corrective actions through to resolution.
• •Contribute to the continuous improvement of automation tools, AI-enabled testing practices, quality processes, and engineering standards.
• •Communicate testing progress, risks, findings, and recommendations clearly to technical and business stakeholders.

What We Look For

• •Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• •Minimum 5 years of software quality engineering and test automation experience.
• •Demonstrated expertise designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks using Playwright.
• •Strong programming skills in JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
• •Hands-on experience implementing Playwright-based UI, API, and end-to-end automation solutions within CI/CD environments.
• •Strong experience testing web applications, RESTful APIs, and microservices-based architectures.
• •Practical knowledge of AI-assisted software testing, automation development, or quality analysis.
• •Strong knowledge of the software development lifecycle and functional, integration, system, regression, and end-to-end testing methodologies.
• •Experience working directly with software developers to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex quality and automation challenges.
• •Strong SQL skills for data validation, troubleshooting, and test analysis.
• •Experience with requirements, test case, and defect management tools; Polarion experience is advantageous.
• •Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, DevOps practices, cloud technologies, and modern software delivery pipelines.
• •Experience with GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar CI/CD platforms is preferred.
• •Experience migrating or modernising automation frameworks from Selenium, Cypress, Katalon, or similar technologies is advantageous.
• •Knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, or regulated software development environments is advantageous.
• •Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to other engineers is preferred.
• •Excellent analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• •Professional fluency in English.
