Description of Task to be Performed:

AnaVation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our Cross Domain Engineering Team supporting mission-critical programs within the federal government. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in systems design, network infrastructure, and cloud automation—combining hands-on technical proficiency with strategic leadership. This role involves architecting, developing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and highly available systems across multiple environments, including AWS and on-premises platforms, to enable critical data exchange and operational continuity across domains.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Architect, develop and support a for a highly available resource utilized FBI-wide for mission-critical programs composed of numerous AWS services and on-premises servers across multiple locations.

Automation and Cloud Integration: Automate the creation and management of AWS resources using AWS CloudFormation, AWS Lambda, GitLab, BASH, and Python scripting.

Infrastructure Lifecycle Automation: Design and implement an automated, hands-free monthly server rebuild and switchover process leveraging CloudFormation, Lambda, and EventBridge.

Linux Automation and Monitoring: Develop and maintain a comprehensive system of scripts and processes to automate configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of UNIX systems supporting essential FBI services.

Maintain network hardware and server infrastructure, including analysis, configuration, installation, and testing of new hardware and software.

Support daily network operations, evaluating utilization, monitoring response times, and detecting and resolving operational problems.

Troubleshoot issues at both the physical and logical levels of the network, using diagnostic tools and communication protocol analysis.

Participate in planning, design, technical reviews, and implementation of network and infrastructure projects supporting voice and data communications.

Maintain and enhance network infrastructure standards, including TCP/IP communication protocols, and ensure adherence to industry and security best practices.

Exhibit proficiency with virtualization technologies (VMware, AWS, etc.) and network administration, ensuring high system availability and scalability.

Provide technical consultation, mentorship, and training to IT personnel designated by the government.

Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure and communication problems affecting production systems.

Manage patching, certification, and accreditation tasks, ensuring compliance with approved baselines and government standards.

Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quick Reference Guides to support continuity and knowledge transfer.

Serve as a technical advisor for system and database design, development, and procurement, recommending solutions for performance, security, and scalability.

Set and maintain standards for client/server database architecture, ensuring consistent implementation across enterprise environments.

This position requires a Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and the ability to obtain CI Poly.

This position is on-site in Vienna VA with no remote option.
