Duties

Develop policies, plans, and criteria pertaining to the program planning of recurring maintenance, operation and repair of building systems, code compliance, utility systems, structures, roads, grounds, parking lots, parking structures, and building service equipment and asset management equipment. Oversee the Data Center Operations Division daily operations and maintenance of a wide variety environmental support systems and equipment - heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), evaporative water-cooling towers, uninterruptable power supply (UPS), diesel-engine driven emergency generators, electrical power distribution switchgear, physical structures, utilities, roadways, and surrounding grounds. Apply practical knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical systems for data centers, office buildings, and records storage facilities, and solves complex problems and issues involving interrelationships between facilities, information technology, security, and safety requirements while maintaining mission critical operations 24/7. Use of strong oral and written communication skills; develop specifications and plan criteria for major projects; make surveys and studies; develop special reports and briefings; and communicate current situational status and short, medium and long-range facility plans and logistical goals. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/05/2026. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Basic Requirements: This standard allows eligibility through meeting either the education or experience requirement requirements for a Supervisory General Engineer, GS-0801-14. A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program OR Combination of education and experience in engineering as specified by OPM, including coursework in mathematics, physics, and engineering sciences OR Registration as a Professional Engineer by a US State, Territory, or Commonwealth. AND Specialized Experience for GS-14: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level. Specialized Experience is demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience directing multidisciplinary teams of mechanical and electrical engineers responsible for delivering environmental infrastructure capabilities for enterprise-scale data centers. Expert knowledge of data center electrical and mechanical systems, Federal codes and standards, and quality control practices, with a proven ability to manage planning, budgeting, design, construction, and continuous operations in a 24/7 mission critical environment. Adept at fostering collaboration, building consensus, and guiding staff, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and resilient data center performance.
