Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Interdisciplinary (Integrated Resource Program Manager) with National Park Service, Bering Land Bridge National Preserve located in Nome, Alaska.

Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Directs an intricate program of resources management activities that involve sensitive and complex issues that may impact a wide variety of park issues. Carries out program management duties by developing work plans and schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates for funding requests and accomplish goals. Prepares and coordinates the efforts of others in the preparation of resources management plan and specific actions plans pertaining to the management and protection of cultural and natural resources. Develops and implements long range plans for the inventory, evaluation, documentation, preservation, research, and interpretation of the resources within the appropriate mission, objectives, and resources contexts. Develops and maintains effective working relations with Alaska Native Tribes /Consortia, other traditional associations, and related groups, agencies, and the public. Represents the park on NPS regional task groups or similar organizations. Makes presentations in the parks, in public gatherings, and at professional meetings.

Qualifications

Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 10/07/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. BASIC REQUIREMENT: To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess at least one of the basic requirements for the Anthropology, 0190 series, General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences 0401 series, or Archeologist, 0193 series as follows: Anthropology, 0190 series: degree in an appropriate field of anthropology. You must include transcripts. OR combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in an appropriate field of anthropology, or related course work, plus appropriate experience, or additional education. You must include transcripts and hours worked per week. OR four years of appropriate experience in anthropology performing research, museum work, or similar professional-level work. You must include hours worked per week. -OR- General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences, 0401 series: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. You must include transcripts. OR combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include transcripts and hours worked per week. -OR- Archeologist, 0193 series: Degree that included semester hours as described in Parts A, B, and C as follows: (Part A) Bachelor or higher degree that includes 3 semester hours each in the following 5 course areas: 1) History of archaeology; 2) Archaeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; 3) Regional archaeology, archaeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; 4) Theory and methods of archaeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating and analytical techniques; 5) Archaeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work, AND (Part B) I have taken six semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archaeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; AND (Part C) I have completed archaeological field school. OR Degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements above (including archeological field school). OR Combination college-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. You must include transcripts and hours worked per week. OR Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher-grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. You must include hours worked per week in your resume. -AND- In addition to meeting at least one of the basic requirements listed above, to qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement. Experience: To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: planning and managing programs that provide long-term protection for resources; Experience with an organization or park's natural and cultural resources, including, but not limited to history, archeology, historic structures, ethnology, cultural landscapes, natural and cultural museum collections, archives, botany, wildlife biology, ecology, hydrology, and physical sciences; Reflect organizational priorities and policies by adhering to regulations, policies, guidelines and federal and state laws that relate to the preservation and protection of natural and cultural resources to assure program goals and objectives meet legal requirements; Manage programs and administer budgets, contracts and personnel; Evaluate resource conditions to develop new techniques and methods when existing techniques are not satisfactory; Manage the collection and summation of data and accomplish data analysis through using data acquisition, analysis standards, methods and recording techniques; Follows guidelines, procedures and techniques required for the preservation, protection, exhibition,
