Location: Edinburgh (We believe in the power of in-person collaboration, and our hybrid model requires colleagues to be in the office a minimum of 40% of their time )

Salary: £58,480 - £87,720 (depending on the experience you can bring)

Closing date: 8th October 2026

We're Aegon. We're a company of ambitious, positive problem-solvers who get things done. We're a team, not a group of individuals. Collaboration is our life force and we believe it's our duty to leave things better than we find them.

We help people live their best lives . We help them with the big stuff, for the moments that matter: Pensions, Savings, Investments. At Aegon, we strive in creating a diverse organisation that plays a meaningful role in driving greater equity, inclusion and belonging.

We are looking for a Tax Manager to join our ambitious tax team in Edinburgh at an exciting time of change and development. This role offers a varied mix of business-as-usual responsibilities and involvement in key strategic projects.

You will provide technical expertise on tax legislation and emerging tax developments, ensuring accurate and timely tax reporting for internal and external stakeholders. This includes reporting to Aegon UK and Group leadership, as well as supporting statutory reporting requirements such as IFRS and Solvency II.

As the lead for Corporate Tax Reporting and Compliance, you will oversee corporate tax returns, manage relationships with HMRC, coordinate withholding tax reclaims, lead the Senior Accounting Officer certification process, and manage transfer pricing activities across the UK business. You will also monitor legislative changes, assess their impact on the organisation, and maintain a robust tax risk and controls framework to support ongoing compliance and governance.

Key Responsibilities for the role include:

  • Providing technical expertise on tax legislation and regulatory changes, ensuring accurate and timely tax reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including Group reporting, annual accounts and Solvency II returns.
  • Delivering high-quality tax advice to the tax and wider finance teams, ensuring guidance is clear, accurate and provided within agreed timescales.
  • Managing the corporate tax control framework and Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) requirements, ensuring tax risks are effectively identified, monitored and managed.
  • Supporting the optimisation of the UK Group's tax position through the effective use of available tax reliefs and planning opportunities.
  • Building strong relationships with key stakeholders across Finance, Group Tax and the wider business, as well as Internal Audit and Risk teams on tax controls and risk reporting.
  • Identifying tax risks and ensuring robust policies, procedures and controls are in place to minimise risk and prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with HMRC, external auditors and tax advisers, ensuring compliance requirements are met and best practices are adopted.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Strong technical expertise in UK tax legislation, with the ability to interpret complex tax matters and communicate them clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • Significant experience advising on Corporate or Withholding taxes, ideally within the Financial Services or Insurance sector.
  • Excellent working knowledge of UK Tax legislation, HMRC guidance and procedures and relevant tax developments impacting the insurance industry.
  • A proven ability to build relationships, influence and engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience presenting complex technical information in a clear and practical manner.
  • The ability to analyse complex information, identify key issues and drive actions through to successful resolution.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen, with an understanding of how tax considerations support wider business objectives.
  • Experience working directly with HMRC, external advisers and auditors.
  • A track record of promoting tax objectives and providing input into cross-functional and multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems and the ability to leverage technology to support tax processes and reporting.

What’s in it for you?

  • We’re serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place. We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we’ll put in 9%. If you decide to contribute more, we’ll match it up to a combined total of 20% of your salary (that’s 7% from you and 13% from us).
  • A discretionary bonus, depending on personal and company performance
  • 34 days leave per year (including bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time)

We also offer private medical cover, life assurance, critical illness cover, enhanced parental leave and a variety of lifestyle benefits to help our employees live their best lives, including retail discount vouchers, cycle2work scheme, subsidised restaurant and online GP appointments.
