POSITION/ROLE OVERVIEW

The Production Department at The New School’s College of Performing Arts is seeking a highly qualified Overhire Production A2 to join its team. Reporting to the Audio & Video Supervisor, the Overhire Production A2 is directly responsible for supporting the audio and video needs of academic related performances and partner events across the College of Performing Arts.

The Overhire Production A2 is responsible for running audio related crew on the stage and facilitating stage moves. The Overhire Production A2 is also responsible for coordination of RF mics.

This is an overhire position without regular or guaranteed weekly hours. Opportunities for work will be scheduled on an as-needed basis by the Audio & Video department. This position may be renewed pending institutional need and availability of funding.

CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Understand and execute the technical aspects of each design, including interpreting audio needs and all signal flow plans, I/O lists, and stage plots

Setup, place, patch, and test all microphones with the A1 and any additional audio labor.

Mix Monitors for events that require it

Coordinate RF Mics for events that require it.

Execute any stage moves required by the show

Provide professional, courteous service to all parties

Fulfills the role of System Tech or Console Operator, or both when required, depending on the size of the event

Responsible for setup, operation, and strike of equipment before, during, and after events, including audio consoles, playback support systems, and any audio related gear as required

Direct any technicians under their supervision in the completion of any required tasks, providing guidance when necessary to deliver the University’s standard

Additional responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

At least 2 years of experience as a live sound engineer for concerts, corporate events or theater

Excellent knowledge of proper gain structure and signal flow

Working knowledge of audio related software, such as Wireless Workbench 6, Pro Tools, Logic. Dante Virtual Soundcard, Dante Controller, etc.

Ability to interpret event technical documents including technical riders, signal flow diagrams, input lists, stage plots, run-of-show, and cue lists.

Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and time-management skills

Ability to communicate with Audio & Video Supervisor, Projections Designer, other departments, and Production Management to ensure a smooth show.

Punctuality, professionalism, and a positive collaborative attitude when working with Students, Faculty, Staff, and Team Members.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Corporate, Special Events, Festival Sound, and Broadcast experience are all plusses

Self-motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision

Able to lift up to 50lbs

Ability to safely climb ladders and scaffolding, operate Genies, and comfortable working at heights

Monitor mixing skills and working knowledge of digital consoles, specifically, Yamaha, Allen & Heath, Midas, and Behringer

WORK MODE

This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement.

SALARY RANGE

$30.00/hour
