Summary :

The Trauma Performance Improvement RN Coordinator serves as a ThedaCare and community clinical resource by providing leadership in trauma clinical practice, performance improvement and professional development for interdisciplinary team members involved in the care of an injured patient. Works closely with the medical staff, administration, specialty practices, department managers, ancillary services, and nursing team members in a highly organized, multidisciplinary approach.

Job Description:

Key Accountabilities

• •Facilitates the trauma performance improvement program, which encompasses all areas and disciplines of the hospital that participate in the care of admitted injured patients.
• •Utilizes the NTDS data dictionary and Wisconsin Department of Health and Human Services (DHS) Standards to support the quality management functions of the trauma program by conducting concurrent and retrospective analysis of patient care identifying opportunities for improvement.
• •Develops appropriate action plans in an effort to achieve the optimal goal of loop closure.
• •Assists with the continued readiness for DHS Trauma Verification.
• •Analyzes trauma registry data, metrics, & outcomes to improve care of the injured patient.
• •Utilizes trauma expertise to provide education to members of the trauma team and hospital clinical teams.
• •Participates in Regional and State Trauma committees to improve the care of the injured patients in our community.
• •Participates and helps coordinate trauma community events.
• •Responds to trauma activations when available; Utilizes the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and specific competencies to assess the physical condition and nursing needs of patients, and develops a plan of care in a collaborative practice with the patient and interprofessional team.

Qualifications

• •Current State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN)
• •Experience in trauma and emergency services is required, experience in critical care, EMS, or medical surgical nursing is beneficial.
• •American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
• •Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) is preferred
• •Trauma Certified RN (TCRN) is preferred
• •Completion of the Rural Trauma Outcome & Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) course within 12 months of hire is required

Physical Demands

• •Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
• •Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

Work Environment

• •Normally works in climate-controlled office environment
• •Frequent sitting with movement throughout office space
• •Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
• •Occasional high noise level in work environment
• •Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
• •Use of computers throughout the work day
• •Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers
• •Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients
