Summary

This position is designated as SES, Career-Reserved . USDA structures its SES positions into position levels. This is a position level 1 with a salary range of $192,332 - $204,121 per year. Exceptions to the salary cap may be considered in certain circumstances. SES employees are also eligible to receive bonuses and performance-based awards. Duties

• •Champions science-based standards that protect the health of American consumers and ensure fair practices in the food trade worldwide that benefit our American farmers, ranchers, and producers.
• •Spokesperson for the U.S., exercising decision-making authority in coordination with the Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs, the Under Secretary for Food Safety, and the Interagency U.S. Codex Policy Steering Committee.
• •Coordinates all United States involvement in Codex activities both domestically and internationally and approves all correspondence that communicates U.S. positions on matters before the Commission.
• •May serve as the U.S. Delegate to meetings of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) and specific Codex committees.
• •Serves as the principal point of contact for discussions concerning Codex and the World Trade Organization and other relevant international organizations.
• •Directs a comprehensive worldwide outreach program to build capacity for Codex participation and to gain support for U.S. positions in Codex.
• •Develops and maintains effective relationships with public and private sector groups, Congress, and consumer and trade associations to provide information as appropriate and obtain input on Codex activities.

Describe your executive-level experience facilitating discussions and leading negotiations between multiple stakeholder groups on complex food safety and trade issues. Include how you cultivate strategic relationships and build coalitions to achieve consensus and advance U.S. positions that support science-based standards that benefit American consumers, farmers, ranchers, and producers in multilateral forums. Describe your knowledge of the U.S. Codex Program's strategic initiatives to enhance the competitiveness of U.S. food producers and exporters, and your ability to provide senior leadership and interagency partners with scientifically sound, technically informed, and policy-relevant recommendations for achieving U.S. food safety and trade objectives.
