Upper School Counselor, part-time

The Hun School of Princeton seeks an experienced, collaborative Middle and Upper School Counselor for a part time position (with a potential for a full time opportunity in the future). The counselor will work approximately 28 hours per week across four work days, and will join a dynamic Counseling and Wellness team supporting students in grades 6 through 12.

Responsibilities :

• •Providing individual counseling and student support to Middle and Upper School students.
• •Build trusting counseling relationships that respect how students’ identities, cultures, families, and lived experiences shape their well-being and their experience at school.
• •Partner and communicate with families and outside providers, as appropriate, to support student well-being.
• •Consult with faculty, advisors, deans, and administrators around student social-emotional needs.
• •Participate in Student Support Team meetings and collaborate with colleagues across Counseling, Health Services, Learning Support, Residential Life, Athletics, and Student Life.
• •Partner with colleagues to identify and address school practices or barriers that may affect students’ access to support and sense of belonging, with particular attention to students whose needs may be overlooked.
• •Help coordinate support and follow-up for students of concern.
• •Support students returning to school following absences, treatment, medical leave, or other significant disruptions.
• •Maintain timely and appropriate documentation in the School’s student support systems, including IntelliSpark.
• •Contribute to a school culture centered on connection, belonging, and student well-being.

Qualifications :

• •A master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field.
• •Experience counseling adolescents.
• •Demonstrated ability to support students across a range of identities and backgrounds, with an understanding of how bias, inequity, and social context can affect mental health and the help students receive.
• •Experience in a school or youth-serving setting is preferred.
• •Current clinical licensure or certification preferred.
• •Strong communication and organizational skills.
• •Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, families, faculty, and staff.
• •A love for working with young people.
• •Commitment to an inclusive, student-centered community.
• •Personal qualities including warmth, flexibility, approachability, humility, sound judgment, and follow-through.
• •Comfort working in a fast-paced school environment where student needs may shift throughout the day.

Schedule and Position Details :

• •Part-time position, approximately 28 hours per week across four full days on campus.
• •Some flexibility may be needed for student or family needs, meetings, and urgent situations.
• •Reports to the Director of Counseling and Wellness.
• •Works closely with the Middle and Upper School counseling team and broader Health and Wellness department.

Salary Range: $50,000 to $65,000 The starting salary will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
