The Virtual Patient Companion provides continuous remote observation of patients across the Cleveland Clinic enterprise from a centralized monitoring location. Using a telemonitoring system, they observe multiple patients (up to 15-20 at a time) to ensure safety and prevent at-risk behaviors. The companion’s first response is to verbally redirect the patient as needed, and they promptly alert nursing staff through the alarm system or Vocera communication when intervention is required . This role requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and adherence to patient confidentiality and hospital policies.

A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation| 6:30am—7:00pm or 6:30pm—7:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Comply with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives , quality assurance methods and safety codes.

Demonstrate compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required .

Demonstrate appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers and coworkers.

Cooperate with m anagement and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.

Demonstrate an understanding of a nd proficiency in the use of the NAME TeleSitter Solution software.

Maintain visual observation .

Verbally redirect patient s over a digital two -way audio device in patient room s .

Immediately summon the nursing staff if the patient requires assistance .

Participate in the hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving to monitoring area and upon completion of shift assignment .

Arrange meal break times and inform staff before leaving the monitoring station so relief may be provided to ensure constant patient observation.

Provide patients with explanations as necessary without counseling or providing opinions.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High School Diploma/GED

General knowledge of hospital settings

Can m onito r up to 15 patients on one screen at one time and prioritize simultaneous situations

Can communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset

Can communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes

Can use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Previous experience in a hospital environment

Previous c linical experience

Previous d irect p atient c are experience

Nurse Assistant/Medical Assistant C ertification

Physical Requirements:

• •Requires the ability to sit for prolonged periods.
• •Lifting and carrying weights of up to 10 pounds from low to high levels is occasionally required and is an essential function of the position.
• •Grasping and reaching are frequently required handling demands.
• •Mental concentration and working with precise limits of accuracy are important.
