Weight Handling Equipment Inspector/Mechanic

Summary

You will serve as a Weight Handling Equipment Inspector/Mechanic in the Research and Development Service Division, Code 3523.5 of NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY This is a flyer to notify applicants of anticipated vacancies. Duties

• •You will be required to perform inspections, tests, and make necessary assessment and repairs to a wide variety of Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) used for lifting and moving of specific materials and supplies.
• •You will make necessary repairs and assists in the preparation of Shop Repair Orders (SRO) to properly document each repair operation.
• •You will make recommendations to supervision when inspection reveals unusual damage, deterioration or conditions where repairs are economically questionable, concerning inspection findings and other corrective actions.
• •You will correspond with the local crane engineer as well as the Navy Crane Center (NCC) to ensure that alterations and modifications are approved and adhere to all applicable standards and regulations.
• •You will serve as the Load Test Director and conduct load tests, operational tests, various type of proof tests, and related actions necessary to recommend certification or acceptance of WHE at NRL and associated field sites.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your resume must demonstrate the following: I have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including 1) Performing operational tests for inspections to evaluate proper equipment operation; 2) Directing the activities of crane inspectors, equipment mechanics, crane operators, and riggers; 3) Inspecting, repairing, and examining major mechanical units and component parts such as gearboxes, brake systems, bearings, external gears, shafts, wire ropes, load chains, hydraulic cylinders, and other mechanical integral units of WHE for proper operation; and 4) Evaluating equipment designs, alterations, and modifications Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
