Required Degree:

Master’s degree or higher in public health, health promotion, behavioral health, psychology, behavioral medicine, or a closely related field preferred. The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience:

• •Academic or professional background related to mind-body health, behavioral medicine, health psychology, or the relationship between mental, emotional, behavioral, and physical health.
• •Demonstrated understanding of theories and research examining how emotions, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, and social and cultural influences affect health and disease.
• •Ability to critically evaluate and effectively communicate current research related to mind-body health, chronic and infectious disease, behavioral medicine, and complementary and alternative health practices.
• •Previous college-level teaching experience preferred.
• •Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage undergraduate students in complex health topics.
• •Ability to facilitate thoughtful, evidence-based discussion of health beliefs, behaviors, cultural influences, and other potentially sensitive topics

Duties/Expectations:

• •Teach HLTH 383: Mind/Body Health at the undergraduate level in accordance with established course objectives and learning outcomes.
• •Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, discussions, activities, and other learning experiences addressing the relationship between mental, emotional, behavioral, social, and cultural factors and physical health.
• •Help students identify and evaluate behavioral, social, and cultural thought processes that may contribute to health and disease.
• •Teach students to understand and critically evaluate connections between mental processes, beliefs, behaviors, and the development or management of chronic and infectious disease.
• •Incorporate relevant research and evidence into course instruction, including research related to behavioral medicine and complementary and alternative health practices.
• •Facilitate class discussions and student presentations that encourage critical thinking and the application of course concepts.
• •Develop and/or administer appropriate assignments, examinations, presentations, and other assessments to evaluate student learning.
• •Provide timely, constructive feedback and maintain accurate student grades and course records.
• •Maintain regular communication with students and provide appropriate opportunities for students to seek assistance with course material.
• •Maintain a professional and respectful learning environment, particularly when addressing sensitive topics related to mental, emotional, behavioral, cultural, and physical health.
• •Coordinate with the Department of Public Health regarding course expectations, curriculum, scheduling, and other instructional responsibilities.
