AIRCRAFT ORDNANCE SYSTEMS MECHANIC

Summary

This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to verify and analyze on and off equipment, malfunctions, troubleshoot, calibrate, modify, fabricate, test, align, inspect, repair, configure, deconfigure, and load assigned integrated nuclear/conventional weapons delivery systems; and to provide training to reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. The organizational location of this position is: Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC), 10th Air Force (10th AF), 419th Fighter Wing (419 FW), 419th Maintenance Group (419 MXG), Maintenance Squadron (MXS), Hill Air Force Base (AFB), Utah. The organizational goals or objectives of this position are to maintain integrated airborne weapons control, release systems and equipment and to configure, deconfigure, and load integrated weapons delivery systems. Duties: 1: Troubleshoots integrated nuclear/conventional weapons systems, electronic and electromechanical components, fire control systems, electro-environmental systems, bomb navigation systems, subassemblies, Alternate Mission Equipment, and test equipment to determine nature of malfunctions and corrective actions required both on and off equipment. Controls tools, cleans work area and equipment and completes work control documents in accordance with established procedures. 2: Performs maintenance, repair, inspection, fabrication and modification of integrated nuclear/conventional weapons systems electronic and electro-mechanical components, fire control systems, electro-environmental systems, bomb navigation systems, and their subassemblies for both on and off equipment. Performs explosive operations, loads and unloads, positions, arms, and safes all assigned nuclear/conventional air munitions and pyrotechnics on assigned aircraft and or equipment. 3: Removes/installs integrated nuclear/conventional weapons systems electronic components, fire control systems, electro-environmental systems, bomb navigation systems, and subassemblies for both on and off equipment and associated test equipment. Performs pretest, operational, functional, electrical, mechanical, and final testing of integrated nuclear/conventional weapon systems electronic components fire control systems, electro-environmental systems, bomb navigation systems, and their subassemblies both on and off equipment. 4: Accomplishes configuration changes of integrated nuclear/conventional weapons control, launch, release, and suspension assemblies on assigned aircraft and equipment based on mission requirements. Plans and conducts training of reserve personnel, Active Duty and other employees. Plans for and trains assigned personnel on data, tools, and equipment necessary to perform weapons operations and to meet peacetime and wartime requirements.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C for WG-6600 - Armament Work Family. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 - Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Ordinance Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret a variety of technical data such as schematic diagrams, blueprints, and technical orders relating to the electronics and electro-mechanical trades. Ability to clean work area and job site upon completion of work. 2. Skill in the use of standard hand and power tools of the electronics and electro-mechanical trades. 3. Comprehensive knowledge of operation, capabilities, and limitations of complex electronic systems complicated by a variety of multi-component assemblies and devices. 4. Knowledge of related electronic, electrical, mechanical, optical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials accountability and security. 5. Ability to remove, install, modify, repair, maintain, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot complete electronic or electro-mechanical systems. Select and use electronic and electro-mechanical testing equipment. Ability to operate a computer. 6. Knowledge of safety and security requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, policy, and technical orders. Knowledge of USAF Technical Order Program and its certification and documentation procedures. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: (1) This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow the incumbent to fully participate in Unit Training Assemblies (UTA) weekends. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (2) The incumbent must obtain and retain the appropriate security clearance level designated for the position. (3) This is a testing designated position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. (4) This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. (5) The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. (6) Incumbent may be required to secure a valid state, commercial driver's license with hazardous materials endorsement. (7) The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands. May be subject to shift work and uncommon tours of duty. (8) Performs other duties as assigned. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Work encompasses strenuous physical exertion when bending and shaping the more complex items in handling larger and bulkier material. Requires physical effort which includes prolonged standing; climbing up and down ladders and scaffolds; working in cramped and awkward positions while installing items; and reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Heavy lifting (80lbs and over). Climbing heights up to 65 feet. Operation of cranes, tractor, motor vehicle, or aerospace ground equipment. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes are required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to distinguish shades of color.
